Apple India started its festive season sale in its online and offline stores offering heavy discounts on some of its products. The California-based tech company announced its festive sale on Sunday. 


Apple’s festive sale will give you a Rs 10,000 instant discount and an additional 6,000 off on trading in an old device. Along with all these, the company is also hosting free sessions at its BKC store in Mumbai.


HDFC bank users can also get a Rs 6,000 instant discount on the iPhone 15 Pro, while Rs 5,000 off on the iPhone 15 series. Similarly, HDFC users can also get a Rs 4,000 discount and Rs 3,000 discount on iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 series, respectively.

Apple to announce new iPad models with performance boost this week: Report

Apple is reportedly planning to announce updated iPad models later this week. According to 9to5Mac, the new models would include the iPad Air, iPad Mini, and the baseline iPad. These are expected to be unveiled on October 17. All three iPads are expected to get performance improvements with newer-generation chipsets powering them.


According to a 9to5Mac report, the 2023 iPad Air would likely feature the current-generation M2 chip, replacing the M1 processor on the Air that was released last year. Similarly the baseline iPad eleventh- generation would likely feature the A16 Bionic chipset that powers the baseline iPhone 15 variants. As for the tenth-generation iPad, no significant design changes are expected this year.

The iPad mini would likely get the A16 Bionic chip as well, replacing the A15 chipset from last generation models. It is reported to feature a new display controller for the display to work smoothly. This is to incorporate a 120Hz refresh rate panel, which is expected to be part of the iPad mini 2023.

Recently, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo introduced the Vivo V29 Pro in the Indian market. The Vivo V-series has long been associated with a focus on design and imaging capabilities, and the V29 Pro continues the legacy. Let us delve deeper to know if the Vivo V29 Pro is noteworthy at Rs 39,999.


Design


The Vivo V29 Pro boasts a sleek and stylish design, setting it apart from the more generic offerings of its competitors. The Himalayan Blue colour variant, the unit under review, has a multi-layered pattern on the back cover, creating a gradient texture. This design element may be a matter of personal preference, but it undeniably distinguishes the phone in a positive manner. On the front, a two-sided curved display with slim top and bottom bezels contributes to a premium near-bezel-less appearance. The device’s slim profile and lightweight construction enhance its ease of handling and operation.


Display

The Vivo V29 Pro features a 6.78-inch FullHD+ AMOLED display of up to 120Hz refresh rate. The display is bright and offers good visibility in direct sunlight. Software


The Vivo V29 Pro runs on the Android 13 operating system with the Funtouch OS 13 interface layered on top. Funtouch OS offers personalisation options, privacy features, and controls. However, it comes with several pre-installed apps and includes folders with apps like the game folder. The interface is a mixed bag, featuring some highlights alongside a few shortcomings.


Camera


The V29 Pro impresses with its imaging capabilities, largely due to the value-added features and tools provided by Vivo. Notable features include the Aura Light, a ring of LED lights that can be adjusted for brightness and tone. It can also operate automatically for a smoother experience. This is in addition to the regular flash. The phone also includes a Pro Sports Mode for capturing fast-moving objects with background motion blur. This feature excels in well-lit conditions but struggles in low-light settings.


Other noteworthy camera features include Wedding Portrait, Astro mode, and Super Night video mode. The rear camera delivers sharp contours and fine bokeh in various lighting conditions, while the front camera encounters challenges in low-light portrait photography. Both front and rear cameras support 4K video recording at 60fps. The phone offers Ultra stabilisation for the rear camera, although it reduces the resolution to 1080p at 24fps.


Performance

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200, the Vivo V29 Pro delivers good performance. Although it is not a dedicated gaming smartphone, it can handle gaming tasks. Extended gaming sessions may result in occasional frame drops, but a brief pause restores optimal performance. It is worth noting that the phone can become warm after extended graphic-intensive activities, indicating the need for a break.

Battery


The Vivo V29 Pro delivers a modest on-battery time. With moderate usage, the device lasts a full day, but processor and graphic-intensive tasks such as gaming and 4K video recording deplete the battery quickly. To mitigate this, the Vivo V29 Pro includes an 80W fast charger, capable of fully recharging the battery in approximately one hour.


Verdict


The Vivo V29 Pro is a design-focused smartphone with novel imaging features. While it does not compromise on core aspects like performance and battery life, it does cut corners on essentials such as dual stereo speakers, ingress protection, and a clutter-free user interface. A Mark Mobius-backed company’s stock has doubled in about six months as its mapping service grows more popular in India, pitting it against Alphabet Inc.’s Google Maps. Market watchers are split on whether the rally will continue.


Shares of MapmyIndia, formally known as CE Info Systems Ltd., have risen about 104 per cent from the end of March, adding around $675 million in market value on demand for its consumer-facing app Mappls. Some analysts and investors are betting on the company’s domestic growth opportunity, while others view its price tag as a barrier.

“The valuations look really stretched now,” said Piyush Pandey, technology analyst at Yes Securities India Ltd. “I expect the stock to go into a consolidation phase.”


MapmyIndia was founded by the husband-and-wife duo Rakesh and Rashmi Verma, who decided to create digital maps of India long before Google revolutionized web cartography. The Vermas traversed India’s mega-cities by foot, painstakingly charting streets and landmarks. Their son Rohan Verma, a graduate in electrical engineering from Stanford, is now the firm’s chief executive officer.


The majority of its revenue comes from providing mapping services to other businesses such as Apple Inc., BMW AG and Amazon.com Inc.


Mobius flagged the stock as one of his top picks in India in a June interview to Bloomberg, saying the company will “benefit from digitization of the country.” His firm Mobius Capital Partners LLP owns a 0.74 per cent stake in the company, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. It initially invested in January and boosted its holding over the following four months.


After their surge, the shares trade about 65 times its estimated earnings over the next 12 months compared to around 21 times for the S&P BSE 500 Index, according to Bloomberg-compiled data. The stock has pulled back 8.5 per cent from an Oct. 6 record high.


Still, Shobit Singhal, lead internet stocks analyst at Anand Rathi Institutional Broking Ltd., remains optimistic. He expects the company to grow its sales by 35 per cent-40 per cent every year for at least the next 3-5 years.


“The business has no listed peers in such a big domestic market,” he said. “Such growth combined with a management with strong pedigree deserves a premium valuation,” he said.


The company is investing in in-house drone technologies and is also looking to acquire drone businesses, CEO Rohan Verma said in a phone interview. MapmyIndia is also expanding internationally on demand from their clients, most of which are multinationals.


“We want to be a full-stack drones provider,” he said. “We have the technological know-how of navigation, now its time to widen its use cases.”

Microblogging site X formerly known as Twitter faced an outage on Friday with several users, including those in India, reporting issues while refreshing or posting new content on the social media platform.


Many ‘X’ users reported problems with the microblogging site on Friday evening.


According to the outage monitoring website, Downdetector, the number of X outages reached up to 566 at 7:31 PM today in the country.


Many users stated that they are unable to use the microblogging site through the official app.
