YouTube India removed 1.9 mn videos in Jan-Mar 2023 for community violation

Over 1.9 million videos were removed between January and March 2023 in India for violating YouTube’s community guidelines, marking the highest removals among nations, according to a report released by the popular video streaming platform.


During the same period, globally, YouTube removed over 6.48 million videos for violating community guidelines.


The Community Guidelines Enforcement report provides global data on the flags YouTube receives and how YouTube enforces policies.


Between January and March 2023, in India, over 1.9 million videos were removed for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines. In comparison, in the US, 6,54,968 videos were removed, Russia (4,91,933), and Brazil (4,49,759).


“Since the earliest days as a company, our Community Guidelines have protected the YouTube community from harmful content. We enforce our policies using a combination of machine learning and human reviewers,” YouTube said.

In a policy switch, X now allows political ads by US election candidates

Social media company X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday said that it would allow political advertising in the US from candidates and political parties. This comes ahead of the 2024 US presidential election.


Earlier in 2019, the company had banned all political ads globally. However, the ban was partially lifted after the platform’s acquisition by Elon Musk in October 2022.


In January this year, the platform lifted the ban and began allowing “cause-based ads” in the US that raise awareness of issues such as voter registration. It stated that the platform was planning to expand the types of political ads it would allow on it.


In a blog, X posted, “Building on our commitment to free expression, we are also going to allow political advertising. Starting in the US, we’ll continue to apply specific policies to paid-for promoted political posts. This will include prohibiting the promotion of false or misleading content, including false or misleading information intended to undermine public confidence in an election, while seeking to preserve free and open political discourse.”


It added, “We’ll also provide a global advertising transparency centre so that everyone can review political posts being promoted on X, in addition to robust screening processes to ensure only eligible groups and campaigns are able to advertise.”


The move is also expected to improve the revenue for the platform, which has been struggling financially since the takeover by Musk. It has laid off thousands of employees, including those working with the trust and safety team.


Several experts and researchers have been criticising the platform for “not doing enough” to prevent false or misleading content. This becomes more crucial ahead of the US elections.

Apple has sent out invites for a special event scheduled for September 12 where the US technology giant is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series. Titled Wonderlust, the event will be held in Apple Park for an in-person audience. For a global audience, Apple will live stream the event on its website. The Apple event will be broadcast from Apple Park and can be viewed via Apple’s official website at 10 AM Pacific Time. In India, the broadcast will start at 10:30 PM. Here’s is what to expect from the Apple iPhone 15 series:


Apple’s 2023 iPhone line would likely encompass the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. A periscope camera, Action button and A17 Bionic processor are expected to be the key highlights of the iPhone 15 series this year. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would likely be powered by the A17 Bionic processor, whereas the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus may get the A16 bionic processor that powers the current iPhone 14 Pro line. Apple is also expected to bring new colour options with the iPhone 15 series.


USB type-C charging port


One of the major upgrades in the iPhone 15 series is the inclusion of USB type-C port, instead of the lightning port that has been the port of choice for Apple iPhones since 2012. The move follows EU’s law, which mandates USB-C on all devices by 2024. The USB-C port may enable faster transfer speed, up to 40 Gbps compared to 480 Mbps speed cap on the lightning port, for iPhone users.


Action Button


The new action button is likely to replace the alert button and can be used to quickly change to various features. The button and its function is expected to be similar to the one found in Watch Ultra wherein a single button can activate different features like camera setting, flashlights, focus controls, magnifiers, shortcuts, silent mode, voice memo recordings and translation tools.


Dynamic Island and camera


Dynamic Island, which was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro line, is likely to be part of non-pro models starting with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. As for the Pro models, the top-end iPhone 15 Pro Max would get an exclusive Periscope telephoto camera sensor for optical zoom of up to 6x magnification. The iPhone 15 base models may get a 48MP sensor, replacing the 12-megapixel sensors seen on the standard iPhone 14.


Titanium Frame


The iPhone 15 series is expected to shed some weight with the use of titanium construction.

What to expect


The iPhone 15 lineup will likely take the centre stage at the special event. Apple is also likely to announce the Watch series 9 and refresh its Airpods line with a new model. With a new iPhone and Watch, release dates for iOS 17 and watchOS 10 are also expected from the ‘Wonderlust’ event.


iPhone 15 lineup


The biggest updates at the event are expected for the iPhone 15 models. With Apple likely launching four iPhone models, including the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models as well as the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, it is expected that these new iPhones will get power delivery through USB-C port. According to an article on The Verge, both premium models will come with USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 and the base iPhone 15 and 15 plus will support USB 2.0. While the entire lineup of the iPhone 15 series is expected to get the Dynamic Island, the Pro models might also get the titanium frame with thinner bezels around the display. New camera sensors and colour coded cables are likely to be included in the package.


Apple Watch 9 series


Along with the iPhone 15 series, Apple is likely to announce the Watch series 9 and an updated version of the Watch Ultra, which was launched last year. Although no major change is expected from the Watch lineup, the refresh might focus on delivering notable performance improvement with integration of an updated S9 processor. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the S9 chip will be based on the A15 processor. Other updates might include a band with magnetic buckle and new colour options.


AirPods with USB-C


AirPods might not get any new updates in terms of features and performance, but the charging case is likely to come with a USB-C port, similar to that on the iPhone 15 series.


What else


With the beta version of iOS 17 out already, release dates for the iOS 17 and WatchOS 10 are expected to be announced during the Apple event. While the new iOS gets a StandBy mode, voice message transcriptions and a new Journal App, the watchOS 10 will have widgets with new watch faces.

Digital skills, generative AI, and data analytics are the most in demand, signalling bright prospects for talent with tech skills such as Development, SAP, Automotive Design, Testing, and Infra Support, among others, in the first quarter of fiscal 2024, according to the Skills Report by Quess Corp, a business solutions provider.

While upskilling across industries has been a strategy adopted by companies over the last year to bridge the emerging skill gap in India, sectors like IT and BFSI have shown the highest tech-focused intent-to-hire. 


Among functional skill suites with the highest intent-to-hire in the first quarter, development roles (28%) held the highest share. 

Full stack, developers, SAP expertise and development role most in demand

Demand for developers skilled in over 65 technical proficiencies and platforms was observed. 


Full Stack skills exhibited consistent and upwardly trending demand within the consulting, automotive, banking, and telecom sectors. 


The demand for SAP (16%) expertise has consistently remained high, encompassing both development and implementation aspects. 


Among functional skill suites with the highest intent-to-hire in the first quarter, development roles (28%) held the highest share. 


Automotive design (14%) is another one of the top skills in demand

 The global and Indian automotive sectors are experiencing a surge in demand for talent, which is attributed to the increasing adoption of digitization and the need for technologically adept skills. Moreover, an increase in demand for testing skills (12%) in both manual andautomated domains. There is pronounced demand for proficiencies in Selenium, TOSCA, Workday, and ServiceNow.

Alongside  functional skill suites, Quess observed a substantial demand for proficiencies encompassing Data Science, DevOps, Cloud, ERP, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, UI/UX and other related domains.


IT and BFSI showed the highest tech-focused intent-to-hire


IT sector (15%) emerged with the highest share, followed by BFSI (15%), and Digital Engineering (13%). Telecom and Healthcare industries have also seen improved sentiments. As the world moves towards renewable energy, the oil and gas sector is being compelled to overhaul their business models and decision-making methodologies to remain competitive. To achieve this, they are turning to digital solutions to unearth new revenue streams, increase production, and drive down costs. Advanced technologies such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, and the Industrial Internet of Things are enabling companies to optimize complex processes and respond more effectively to volatility, shocks, and disruptions.


Karnataka, Maharashtra lead hiring 


Tech hiring dominated by IT hubs Hiring activity across India was primarily dominated by IT Hubs in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Haryana. Remote working mandates and improved data services infra have enabled an upswing in hiring across Tier 2 and 3 cities, particularly in E-Commerce and Financial Services firms.
