HP India unveils OMEN Playground stores for gamers to use HP gaming devices

HP India on Monday introduced OMEN Playground stores, which will allow gamers to play on HP gaming devices and gears, including OMEN, Victus and Hyper X.

The company plans to open 40 OMEN Playground stores across the country this year. As of now, eight OMEN Playground stores are functioning in seven cities.

The technology company unveiled eight OMEN Playground stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Ludhiana and Hubli and will soon expand its network of OMEN Playground stores in cities such as Lucknow, Hyderabad, Nashik, Bhubaneswar and Chandigarh, HP said in a statement.

“The OMEN playground stores comprise of unique gaming facilities and allow walk-ins to enable an interactive and immersive gaming experience.”

The stores are meant to provide a no-cost hub for emerging talent in the Indian gaming industry to engage in the latest technological innovations.

“India in recent years is seen as an emerging, fast-growing hub for the gaming industry. We, at HP, are committed to empower all gamers in India with our innovations,” said Vineet Gehani, senior director of consumer sales, HP India.

“With the OMEN Playground stores, we are excited to unleash the gaming potential of gamers — be it casual or professional. These stores will also provide an opportunity to non-PC gamers to experience the power of HP’s PC gaming ecosystem,” Gehani added.

According to the HP India Gaming Landscape Study 2022, a future in gaming is envisioned by two-thirds of committed gamers in the country.

“The varied level of gaming facilities in the OMEN Playgrounds will be specially managed by gaming specialists and will have year-long gaming calendar, while being experiential in nature,” the company said.

“The OMEN Playground stores provide an opportunity for gamers to engage with the latest devices with their favourite games. Gamers can also choose to purchase any device in the Playgrounds. This unique approach by HP hopes to inspire and motivate the new generation of gamers in India,” it added.

Chinese smartphone maker POCO is set to launch in India the Poco X5 Pro 5G smartphone on February 6 at 5:30 pm. The smartphone would be announced in an online event, which would stream live on the e-commerce platform Flipkart and company’s social media accounts.

Twitter fixes bug that showed users ‘this tweet is unavailable’: Musk

Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Monday said that the micro-blogging platform has fixed the bug that showed users “this tweet is unavailable”.

When a user queried: “Is it just us seeing ‘this tweet is unavailable’ on more and more quote tweets in the feed, but when you click on it, the tweet appears? @TwitterSupport @elonmusk.”

Musk replied: “We think we fixed this bug today. Please lmk if you’re still seeing it.”

Several users shared their status related to the bug on Musk’s post.

While one user said, “fixed for me”, another commented, “that’s an old, ‘conservative bug’ that disappears tweets the AI doesn’t like. Years back it was a very regular thing to see”.

WhatsApp rolls out longer group subjects, descriptions on iOS beta: Report

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out longer group subjects and descriptions on iOS beta.

This will make it easier for users to better describe groups, reports WABetaInfo.

Beta users can now choose a longer group description, up to 2048 characters, as the previous limit was 512 characters.

Longer group descriptions will help group admins to save additional information for describing their groups.

Moreover, the characters of the group subject have been increased to 100 to provide admins more freedom when naming their groups.

The ability to choose a longer group subject and description is available for all users after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS update from the TestFlight app, the report said.

Last week, a report mentioned that the messaging platform was rolling out similar changes to the group subjects and descriptions on Android beta.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the platform was working on a new feature which will allow users to pin messages within chats and groups.

Lenovo launches ‘IdeaPad 1’ laptop with AMD Ryzen 3 7320U processor

Global technology brand Lenovo has announced the launch of its new laptop powered with the ‘AMD Ryzen 3 7320U’ processor in the country.

The ‘IdeaPad 1’ comes in Cloud Grey colour and will be available at Lenovo Exclusive stores, Lenovo.com, Amazon and across large retail stores, from February 8 at a starting price of Rs 44,690, the company said in a statement.

“Powered by AMD Ryzen 3 7320U with integrated AMD Radeon 610M graphics, this laptop enables users to effortlessly multitask, attend online classes, interact with friends and stream their favourite shows,” it said.

The new laptop features a 15-inch Full-HD anti-glare display with up to 220 nits brightness and stereo speakers by Dolby Audio, allowing users to “enjoy an overall immersive viewing experience for watching videos or gaming”.

“Our latest IdeaPad is an affordable but power-packed device with an extended warranty and best-in-class performance, that helps people achieve their goals while they are working, studying, creating, or just catching up with friends out of town,” said Dinesh Nair, director of consumer business, Lenovo India.

The laptop also features an in-built 720p HD camera which comes with a physical privacy shutter that adds another layer of safety to the experience and blocks unintended onlookers.

“AMD is excited to partner with Lenovo as they bring the new range of Lenovo Ideapad1 laptops to Indian consumers. AMD is redefining the everyday laptop experience with the new AMD Ryzen 7020 Series processors, bringing higher performance via a modern platform to consumers,” said Vinay Sinha, managing director of sales, AMD India.

“Based on the Zen 2 core architecture and AMD RDNA 2 graphics, these AMD-powered laptops will make multitasking easier, providing increased battery life and enabling better productivity on the move,” Sinha added.

Chip-maker Nvidia releases update to fix Discord bug slowing down GPUs

Chip-maker Nvidia has released an update to fix a recently discovered issue where Discord being open in the background slowed down the performance of some Nvidia graphics cards.

In a tweet early Saturday, Nvidia said: “GeForce users can now download an app profile update for Discord. This resolves a recent issue where some GeForce GPUs memory clocks did not reach full speed w/ Discord running in the background.”

The company also mentioned that the update will automatically download to users’ PC the next time they log into Windows.
