Qualcomm introduces ‘Snapdragon Insiders Access Program’ for new devices

Chip-maker has introduced its new ‘Snapdragon Insiders Access Program’, which will provide ‘Snapdragon Insiders’ priority access to new Snapdragon-powered device launches and much more.

With the new Access Program, Insiders will get the opportunity to be among the first to try new Snapdragon-powered devices and partner with top brands, the company said in a blogpost.

Moreover, it will provide participants the training from established influencers on how to create engaging content and grow their audience, priority access to Snapdragon Insider events and a chance to have their content featured on the company’s official Snapdragon channels.

To apply, one must be 18 or older and live in the US.

If chosen, the applicant’s name will be added to a list of creators and the company will reach out when they have the opportunity to share a new device or invite to an exclusive event.

“Our goal is to support the talented creators within the Snapdragon Insiders community– with an emphasis on supporting a diverse and traditionally underrepresented cohort of tech content creators,” the chip-maker said.

“If you’re passionate about tech and looking to reach more people with your content, this program is a win-win,” it added.

iPhone 14 ‘crash detection’ false alarms increase emergency calls in Japan

iPhone 14 ‘crash detection’ false alarms increase emergency calls in Japan

False alarms by Apple’s iPhone 14 series’ Crash Detection feature are causing problems in Japan, with fire departments near skiing areas getting more emergency call-outs than usual because of the automated calls.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry has issued a warning to smartphone users regarding crash-detecting technologies in smartphones and other devices, due to an increase in automated attempts to reach for help when it is not necessary, reports AppleInsider.

This problem has been an issue for the Kita-Alps Nagano Fire Department, which handles five municipalities in Nagano prefecture.

The report mentioned that 919 emergency calls were made between December 16, 2022, and January 23, of which 134 were false calls, with most triggered by Crash Detection within a skiing area.

Similarly, Gujo City Fire Department in Gifu prefecture had received 351 emergency calls from January 1 to January 23, of which 135 of the calls were false alarms.

It is possible to turn off the feature, but one firefighter explained that since it is an effective feature in cases where a serious accident actually happened, “we can’t ask users to turn it off”.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg now puts Meta’s middle managers on notice: Report

CEO Mark Zuckerberg now puts Meta’s middle managers on notice: Report

After sacking 11,000 employees in November last year, Meta Founder and CEO has now reportedly put middle managers at the company on notice.

According to the newsletter Command Line by The Verge’s Alex Heath, Zuckerberg warned managers at a recent all-hands meeting.

“I don’t think you want a management structure that’s just managers managing managers, managing managers, managing managers, managing the people who are doing the work,” the Meta CEO apparently told them.

The statement appears to be indicating that the company, which will make its quarterly results public this week, may sack more employees.

Meta Chief product officer Chris Cox has also spoken about the requirement to “flatten” the organisational structure.

In one of the worst lay-offs ever in the tech industry, Zuckerberg in November sacked more than 11,000 employees — about 13 per cent of the global workforce — and extended the hiring freeze through Q1 2023.

The and Instagram parent company reported over 87,000 employees (as of September 2022).

In a statement, Zuckerberg said the company is going to take a number of additional steps to become a leaner and more efficient company by cutting discretionary spending and extending its hiring freeze through Q1.

He blamed the macroeconomic downturn, increased competition and ads signal loss for the move, saying it caused “revenue to be much lower than I’d expected”.

“At the start of Covid, the world rapidly moved online and the surge of e-commerce led to outsized revenue growth. Many people predicted this would be a permanent acceleration that would continue even after the pandemic ended. I did too, so I made the decision to significantly increase our investments,” said Zuckerberg.

“Unfortunately, this did not play out the way I expected,” he had said.

Apple developing iOS 17, likely to be launched this year, says report

Apple developing iOS 17, likely to be launched this year, says report

is reportedly developing its iOS 17 software update and other new updates that will be released this year.

Some of the tech giant’s open-source documentation referencing iOS 17 has received updates, reports 9To5Mac.

Every year, the company starts adding references to upcoming iOS, macOS, and watchOS upgrades to its various open-source repositories.

Future versions are frequently referred to as “TBA” by the iPhone maker in order to hide their actual version numbers.

The following operating systems are expected to be introduced at Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June this year– iOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, iPadOS 17 and tvOS 17.

The release of the company’s Reality Pro headset, which will give the company’s lineup a fully new operating system, is expected to coincide with the updates this year.

However, the tech giant has not yet revealed the dates for WWDC and it is still unclear whether the conference will be a hybrid in-person and virtual event like last year or a completely in-person event, the report said.

Google Meet users can now share access to presented content with attendees

Google Meet users can now share access to presented content with attendees

is rolling out a new feature to its video-communication service ‘ Meet’ which will allow users to share access to the content they are presenting in a meeting with attendees, including everyone on the Calendar guest list.

While making the presentation, the users can share the file from the floating action menu or via the suggestion in the Meet Chat, the tech giant said in a Workspace Updates blogpost.

The new feature is helpful because by allowing sharing directly from Meet, users can easily share presented content without having to switch into another window to grant access.

“This makes it easier for meeting attendees to follow along with your presentation, find and reference your material later on, and continue working on action items from the meeting,” said.

Moreover, the company also announced that whenever users paste a link into the meeting chat, they will be “prompted with the file access dialogue.”

From there, users can adjust access as needed and choose to attach the file to the calendar event.

Earlier this month, the tech giant had announced that it is adding a new feature which will allow users to view their speaker notes within Google Meet, while presenting Google Slides.

Users just have to click the new speaker notes button in the Slides controls bar in Meet to display their speaker notes within the call.
