iOS 16.3 adds security keys for Apple ID, new HomePod support, and more

Tech giant has released iOS 16.3, the third major update to the iOS 16 operating system (OS), which features security keys for ID, new HomePod support, bug fixes, and much more.

On compatible iPhones and iPads, iOS 16.3 can be downloaded over-the-air by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update, reports MacRumors.

However, due to high demand, it can take a few minutes for the updates to reach every user.

The new update introduces security keys for ID which will allow users for physical two-factor authentication instead of the digital two-factor authentication used for Apple ID logins.

Moreover, the update features a new Unity wallpaper, along with support for the second-generation HomePod.

With the iOS 16.3 update, the tech giant has also fixed bugs that caused horizontal lines to temporarily appear on the iPhone 14 Pro Max and a bug that resulted in the Home Lock Screen widget not accurately displaying Home appliacation status.

The first iOS 16 OS came out in September last year and iOS 16.3 comes over a month after the launch of iOS 16.2, an update that featured the Freeform app, Apple Music Sing, Advanced Data Protection and more, the report said.

Meta improves accuracy of Quest’s hand tracking technology with new update

Meta improves accuracy of Quest’s hand tracking technology with new update

Meta has improved its Meta Quest’s hand tracking with the new v2.1 update and made it default for Quest applications.

Hand Tracking 2.1 update features upgrades in reliability, accuracy and system pinch quality to improve the consistency and flexibility of hand inputs in users’ (VR) applications, Meta said in a Quest blogpost.

“With Hand Tracking 2.1, apps will be able to reduce tracking loss and predict future positions better than ever before.”

Recovery times have also been significantly shortened following a loss when hands go beyond the field of view (FOV). Reducing recovery time will improve immersion and offer smoother interactions for users.

“These improvements are useful across many VR experiences, but they’re particularly valuable for apps that encourage quick movements, like fitness apps,” the company said.

Moreover, the new upgrades in handling fast-motion movements will help reduce jitter and will improve the tracking continuity in the applications.

As a result, users’ hand positions will recover faster after exiting the FOV and returning.

“We first introduced hand tracking capabilities on Meta Quest back in 2019,” Meta said.

Meanwhile, the company also announced on Monday that it is expanding its partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) to offer more than 50 live VR games on Meta Quest.
