DuckDuckGo: Everything about privacy-focused browser app for iOS, Android

DuckDuckGo: Everything about privacy-focused browser app for iOS, Android

Have you ever wondered why an ad for a pair of shoes or a bag you have searched online keeps popping up on your browser for several weeks? The answer is online tracking. Most apps and websites track users’ online activities and collect data. It allows trackers to create users’ online profiles, which help them serve ads that they perceive to be of relevance to users. Though the outcome of the process seems harmless, it is against the basic tenets of user privacy. DuckDuckGo is one of the that promises privacy-focus experience with in-built tracker blocker, encryption enforcer, and private search engine. Here is everything about the DuckDuckGo:

DuckDuckGo: How is it different from other browsers

DuckDuckGo is a search engine similar to and Microsoft Bing. It is, however, focused on user privacy with in-built tracker blocker and encryption enforcer. While most other browsers have private or incognito mode for users to browse privately, the DuckDuckGo is a private search engine by design that does not save search history. Besides, it connects to the encrypted version of the website, which makes it harder for anyone to track user’s online searches and history. Like other browsers, DuckDuckGo shows ads. However, the ads are based on the search query keywords and not targeted keywords based on search history and online profiling. It essentially means users see ads based on search results and not for a product that they may have searched two or three weeks back.

DuckDuckGo: What is new

DuckDuckGo recently announced that its ‘App Tracking Protection’ beta is open for all users. It blocks third-party trackers in the apps, even when the user is not using them. After enabling the feature, it will send daily reports to the user showing how many tracking attempts it has blocked across apps for the first week. After the first week, it will send weekly reports to the user.

DuckDuckGo: Supported platforms

The browser is available as a smartphone app for both iOS and phones on their respective app stores. It is available as an extension for Chrome, and web client for other browsers. On Safari, it can manually be activated by selecting DuckDuckGo as default search engine.

Elon Musk to speed up Twitter upload time, live video top priority

Elon Musk to speed up Twitter upload time, live video top priority

Boss has said that the company will work on speeding up the upload time on the micro-blogging platform, in which videos will be given top priority.

account, “Tesla Owners Silicon Valley”, which is an official Tesla recognised club, on Monday tweeted in which it asked Musk “to make live video better”.

“Can we make twitter live video better with multiple people at once? Right now it’s only one person and other people are audio,” it tweeted.

To which Musk replied: “Yes, major focus on video overall.”

Tesla Owners Silicon Valley further tweeted: “How are you going to make the app faster.”

Musk replied” “Oh man, that’s a long story, but if we haven’t cut response time in half by end of year, I will hang my head in shame.”

In one of its latest product enhancement announcements, Musk tweeted last week that the microblogging site is working on a solution to automatically convert long-form text into threads, as Twitter allows only 280-characters which makes it challenging for users to compose a long text.

Also, the microblogging site has started working on end-to-end encryption for direct messages (DMs) on Android.

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong tweeted: “Twitter is bringing back end-to-end encrypted DMs.”

Musk replied to Wong’s tweet with a winked emoji, which indicates that the feature is in development.

Google Workspace introduces conversation summaries in Spaces Chats

Google Workspace introduces conversation summaries in Spaces Chats

has introduced conversation summaries in Chat for messages in “Spaces”, which will summarise conversations for users in their Premium Workspace.

According to TechCrunch, in larger Workspaces, these Chats conversations can be difficult to keep up with unless users are always checking their Spaces for new conversations in Chats.

The Workspace Spaces Chat conversation summary will appear at the top of the Chats within Spaces, summarising any unread chatter in the Chats conversation.

By clicking on the summary of the Spaces Chats, users will jump straight to the conversation, even if it’s already visible and the conversation summary has only summarised a few lines of the Chats conversation, according to the report.

To turn the conversation summary on and off, users will need to go on Chat, then click Settings > Conversation summary and then tick or untick the box next to ‘show summaries in spaces that have many unread messages’.

Also, last week, the tech giant announced that it will soon allow users to schedule recurring ‘Do Not Disturb’ (DND) feature on its Chats platform.

Microsoft introduces ‘sign language view’ feature in Teams for deaf users

Microsoft introduces ‘sign language view’ feature in Teams for deaf users

has introduced “sign language view”, a new meeting experience in Teams that will assist signers – people who are deaf/hard of hearing, interpreters, and others who use sign language.

Sign language view will provide a more predictable, static meeting experience that will allow users to prioritise up to two other signers’ video streams for placement on centre stage.

“When sign language view is enabled, the prioritised video streams appear at the right aspect ratio and at the highest available quality. You can enable sign language view either on the fly during a meeting or as a setting that persists across all your calls,” said in a blogpost.

When sign language view is enabled, designated signers remain visible on the centre stage as long as their video is activated.

Other participants can also be pinned or highlighted without encroaching on the signers’ space, according to the blogpost.

The company also made preferences “sticky”, which means there will be no more fiddling with features and views when a user joins a meeting.

The sign language view and accessibility pane are currently available only through a Public Preview available on a user-by-user basis, the blogpost added.

The tech giant will roll out to all commercial and government customers in the “coming weeks”.

To enable sign language view across meetings by default, in Teams, go to Settings and more, then select Settings > Accessibility and then turn on Sign Language.
