“With a 480 million strong gaming community, India is second largest globally, after China. To address this growth, employment in the sector is going to significantly increase. Today, we have a 90% millennials and Gen-Z workforce and the majority of these professionals are aspiring to work in emerging sectors like gaming,” she said.


According to the report, the sector will over the next year add new jobs in programming (game developers, unity developers), testing (games test engineering, QA lead), animation, design, artist (VFX and concept) and miscellaneous roles (content writers, gaming journalists, web analyst).


“With the confluence of Web3 and Metaverse, gamification is not just restricted to traditional gaming avenues but has extended to other emerging tech sectors like E-commerce, FinTech and Education etc. Over the next few years, aided by the sturdy growth in the sector, we will see a catapult impact on employment as well,” Loliwala said.


The industry has more than 40 per cent women whose number in the workforce and leadership roles will increase, the report added.


The highest paying profiles in the include game producers (Rs 10 lakh per annum), game designers (Rs 6.5 LPA), software engineers (Rs 5.5 LPA), game developers (Rs 5.25 LPA) and QA testers (Rs 5.11 LPA).

India PC market declines by 11.7% as consumer demand slows down: Report



The Indian traditional PC market declined by 11.7 per cent year-over-year (YoY) with a shipments of 3.9 million units in the September quarter after eight consecutive quarters of growth, a report showed on Thursday.


According to new data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), all segments declined except the government, which grew by 91.5 per cent YoY as government orders materialised, leading to strong growth for the third consecutive quarter.


“With schools and colleges opening, the consumer segment is seeing tapering demand for the past few months as demand for remote learning has come to a standstill,” said Bharath Shenoy, Senior Market Analyst, IDC .


While the desktop and workstation categories grew by 23.4 per cent and 17.6 per cent YoY, respectively, the notebook category declined by 19.5 per cent YoY.


The consumer segment shipped 2.1 million units with online sales helping in picking up momentum at the end of September.


“However, that was not sufficient to prevent a 10.9 per cent YoY decline,: said the report.


HP shipped over 940,000 units and continued to lead the overall PC market with a share of 23.9 per cent.


Lenovo overtook Dell for the second position with a strong showing in the consumer segment where it continued to hold its second position with a share of 18.8 per cent.


Dell Technologies slipped to the third position as it lost momentum in the consumer segment.


Acer Group continued to hold the fourth position with a share of 10.9 per cent.


ASUS maintained fifth position with a share of 9.9 per cent, much higher than the 8.5 per cent share it had in the third quarter last year.

According to Kuo, Apple will use two different USB-C ports on its iPhones for next year. He speculated that iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will have a standard USB-C port, with 2.0 speeds, same as the current Lightning connector. Whereas, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have high transmission speed, supporting at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3.


For the uninitiated, the European Parliament on October 4 passed a rule standardising the charging port on electronic items. It has selected USB Type-C (also known as USB-C) as the standard port. According to the regulation, all mobile phones, tablets, and cameras sold in the EU must have a USB-C port by the end of 2024. However, for laptops the deadline has been set for 2026.


Unlike its previous iterations, the USB-C has a small oval port with no fixed up or down orientations. Its symmetrical connector makes it easy to plug in. Besides, it is among the industry-standard connectors capable of transmitting both data and power on a single cable. Moreover, it supports fast charging (100W) required by large electronic devices such as laptops and offers super-fast data throughput (40 Gbps). Not just data and power, USB-C also supports sending simultaneous video signals – up to 8K resolution.


Different manufacturers use USB-C for different utilities. One may have a USB-C port on their device but still cannot use all features and functions such as host device charging and video out. Therefore, the EU has made it mandatory for the manufacturers of electronic items to put a dedicated label to inform consumers about the charging characteristics of new devices.

The aim of the “Zero Harm in Comms” research project is to use artificial intelligence (AI) to detect disruptive behaviours, reports The Verge.


There will be two primary phases for the new project.


In the initial stage, both companies will try to develop a framework that will enable them to share, collect, and tag data while safeguarding user privacy.


Making sure they were not retaining data that contains apersonally identifiable information, is a crucial first step.


“Once that privacy-protecting framework is established, and Riot plan to build tools that use AI trained by the datasets to try and detect and mitigate disruptive behaviours,” the report said.


Traditionally, “dictionary-based technologies”, which have a list of terms spelt in various ways were used to evaluate whether a message might be dangerous, said Yves Jacquier, executive director, La Forge.


With this collaboration, Ubisoft and Riot intend to use natural language processing to extract a sentence’s basic meaning while also taking the discussion’s context into account, Jacquier added.


If everything goes according to plan, players will see less harmful chat messages.


“It’s not like a project that will be delivered at some point… it’s way more complex than that,” Jacquier was quoted as saying.
