Trinamool's New Plan As Seat-Sharing Talks With Congress Hit Roadblock

Trinamool's New Plan As Seat-Sharing Talks With Congress Hit Roadblock

Mamata Banerjee is spearheading the Trinamool campaign in Bengal

Kolkata:

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has told district leaders of the Trinamool Congress to be prepared to field candidates in all the three Lok Sabha seats in Murshidabad district, sources said.

Ms Banerjee’s instruction to her party was seen as posturing to its INDIA bloc partner Congress, headed by Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress is yet to respond on seat-sharing talks with the Trinamool for Murshidabad, which has three Lok Sabha seats, two of them held by Ms Banerjee’s party and one by the Congress.

Both Ms Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee were present at today’s meeting.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is the MP from Berhampore under Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituency. He is fiercely opposed to any seat-sharing talks with Ms Banerjee’s party.

The other two Lok Sabha seats in Murshidabad constituency – Jangipur and Murshidabad – are under the Trinamool Congress.

The Trinamool Congress and the Congress’s seat-sharing talks have not made any progress so far. The Congress has also ignored the Trinamool’s deadline to close a seat-sharing deal in Bengal.

The CPI(M)-led Left Front in Bengal is also part of the Opposition INDIA bloc. The CPI(M) and the Congress appears to have aligned against the Trinamool and the BJP in Bengal.

The Trinamool last week decided to abstain from an INDIA bloc virtual meeting, and emphasised the necessity for the Congress to recognise its limitations in Bengal and allow the ruling party to spearhead the state’s political battle.

The Trinamool had previously allied with the Congress in the 2001 assembly election, the 2009 Lok Sabha election, and the 2011 assembly polls, leading to the ousting of the CPI(M)-led Left Front government of 34 years.

In the 2019 election, the Trinamool won 22 seats, Congress won two, and the BJP won 18 seats in the state.

OpenAI Episode Less “Nerve-Wracking” Than Race To Build 'AGI': Sam Altman

OpenAI Episode Less “Nerve-Wracking” Than Race To Build 'AGI': Sam Altman

AI has been a key theme at this year’s Davos summit

Sam Altman said that his dramatic and quickly-reversed firing at OpenAI was less nerve-wracking than how the world approaches making Artificial Intelligence as capable as humans.

“As the world gets closer to AGI, the stakes, the stress, the level of tension – that’s all going to go up,” the ChatGPT-maker’s chief executive officer and co-founder said on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

AI has been a key theme at this year’s Davos summit, with business leaders discussing how best to use the technology after a flurry of investment, while raising concerns about risks, including its potential impact on democracy during a bumper election year.

The rapid advancements in the field and race by companies to achieve a hypothetical future artificial general intelligence, or AGI, has led to many policymakers to call for regulation.

Altman’s ouster by the board in November was “a microcosm of it, but probably not the most stressful experience we ever face,” he said, speaking on a panel about technology in a turbulent world. He said the episode taught the company not to let “not-urgent problems” linger.

“We had known that our board had gotten too small, and we knew that we didn’t have the level of experience we needed, but last year was such a wild year for us in so many ways, that we sort of just neglected it,” he said.

Watch: Ram Lalla Idol Reaches Ayodhya Temple Ahead Of Grand Ceremony

Watch: Ram Lalla Idol Reaches Ayodhya Temple Ahead Of Grand Ceremony

An image showed the idol being placed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Ayodhya:

The idol of Ram Lalla reached the Ayodhya temple late Wednesday evening and was lifted using a crane to place it in the sanctum sanctorum where it will be installed ahead of ‘Pran Pratistha’ ceremony.

The idol, carved in black stone by Mysuru sculptor Arun Yogiraj and weighing around 150-200 kg, was lifted by a crane from the truck that reached the temple along with a procession in the evening. The procession also stopped briefly at the Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya in a symbolic halt.

An image later showed the idol being placed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple as the workers looked on. A special puja was held in the sanctum sanctorum before the idol was brought inside.

It is likely to be installed in the sanctum sanctorum on Thursday, said Shri Ram Mandir Construction Committee chairperson Nripendra Mishra.

The idol was brought inside the temple for the first time on Wednesday, which marked the second day of the weeklong rituals before Monday’s Pran Pratishtha ceremony.

Preparations to take the idol to the new Ram temple complex were on since last night. The idol was placed on a truck decorated with flowers late at night for the procession with the help of a crane.

Meanwhile, a silver idol of Ram Lalla (not the same one to be installed in the sanctum sanctorum) garlanded with roses and marigolds toured the premises of Ram temple this evening. A “Kalash Pujan” was held today as part of rituals being performed in the run-up to the January 22 event.
