Gautam Gambhir “Fights With Colleagues, Does Not Respect Seniors”: Sreesanth’s Rant After Incident At Legends League Cricket | Cricket News

Sreesanth, member of India’s 2007 T20 Cricket World Cup and 2011 ODI Cricket World Cup winning teams, was not at all happy with his former Indian cricket teammate Gautam Gambhir after a Legends League Cricket (LLC) game in Surat on Wednesday. The two were involved in a long stare-off during the match at LLC, a tournament for retired cricket stars. In a video that had gone viral on social media, Gujarat Giants’ Sreesanth could be seen giving a long stare at India Capitals’ Gautam Gambhir after getting hit for a six and a four. The former Indian cricket team opener was not amused and stared back.

Gautam Gambhir scores 51 off 30 balls as India Capitals scored 223/7 in 20 over in  the LLC Eliminator match. Sreesanth took 1/35 in three overs. In reply, Gujarat Giants managed 211/7 in 20 overs and lost by 12 runs.

After the match, Sreesanth uploaded a video on Instagram where he ranted against Gautam Gambhir.

“Just wanted to clear the air with what happened with Mr fighter. One who always fights with all his colleagues. For no reason whatsoever. He does not even respect his own senior players, including Viru Bhai. That’s exactly what happened today. Without any provocation, he just kept on calling me something which was very rude which shouldn’t have been said by Mr Gautam Gambhir,” Sreesanth said in a video uploaded on his Instagram page added.

Sreesanth added that he will soon make Ganbhir’s words to him public.

“I am not at all at fault here. I just wanted to clear the air straight away. What Mr Gauti has done, sooner or later all of you will get to know. The words which he used and the things he said on a cricket field, live, is not acceptable. My family, my state, everybody has gone through so much. I fought that battle with all your support. Now people want to down me for no reason. He said things he shouldn’t have said. I will surely let you know what he said,” Sreesanth said.

“What’s the point of representing people if you don’t respect your own colleagues? Even in broadcasting when he is asked about Virat, he never speaks about him. He speaks about something else. I don’t want to go further in detail. Just want to say I am very hurt and my family is hurt and my dear ones are hurt. And the way he said things…. I haven’t used a single bad word or a single abuse, nothing. He just kept on saying words which he always does,” Sreesanth added.

Why Mushfiqur Rahim Was Out ‘Obstructing The Field’, Not ‘Handling The Ball’ Against New Zealand | Cricket News

Why Mushfiqur Rahim Was Out ‘Obstructing The Field’, Not ‘Handling The Ball’ Against New Zealand | Cricket News

Mushfiqur Rahim in action for Bangladesh cricket team© X (formerly Twitter)

Former captain Mushfiqur Rahim on Wednesday became the first Bangladesh batter to be given out for ‘obstructing the field’ in a bizarre dismissal on the opening day of the second Test against New Zealand here. The 36-year-old Rahim defended a rising delivery from New Zealand quick Kyle Jamieson in the fourth ball of the 41st over and then extended his right hand to apparently keep the ball away after it bounced up wide outside off stump. The Black Caps were quick to appeal and the on-field umpires referred the matter to the TV umpire Ahsan Raza who gave Rahim out.

According to Law 37.1.2, “The striker is out obstructing the field if, except in the circumstances of 37.2, in the act of receiving a ball delivered by the bowler, he/she willfully strikes the ball with a hand not holding the bat. This will apply whether it is the first strike or a second or subsequent strike. The act of receiving the ball shall extend both to playing at the ball and to striking the ball more than once in defence of his/her wicket.”

Earlier such dismissals were classified as “handled the ball” but a change in the laws in 2017 brought them under “obstructing the field” category.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan was the last batter to be given out ‘handling the ball’ against India in 2001.

Rahim was Bangladesh’s top-scorer with his 35 off 83 balls as the hosts were bundled out for 172 inside 67 overs.

Bangladesh won the first Test in Sylhet by 150 runs.

Opinion: 'Animal' To 'Anatomy' – Misogyny And Morality In Cinema And Society

Opinion: 'Animal' To 'Anatomy' – Misogyny And Morality In Cinema And Society

In one of the most poignant scenes of celebrated Hindi dramatist Mohan Rakesh’s iconic play, Aadhe Adhure, Savitri recalls being brutalised by her husband Mahinder. Her fault-being the breadwinner of their family of four while Mahindra allowed himself to be consumed by self-pity, perceived emasculation and jealousy.

Anatomy of a Fall, this year’s Palme d’Or winning film (Best Picture) at the Cannes Film Festival, is a successor to Mohan Rakesh’s sensibility. More than half a century later, a French film invokes similar tensions around men’s eternal struggle with emasculating women. Women who kill them, slowly or at once. Ostensibly, a courtroom whodunnit, the film raises pertinent questions about gender relations without being didactic.

Those who have spared a breath or more on the rank misogyny of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal – which is predictably a blockbuster – must watch Anatomy.

The film opens with Sandra Voyter (Sandra Hüller), a novelist, being interviewed by a young literature student in a secluded French chalet. Mid-interview, pop music starts blasting upstairs and Sandra tells the befuddled interviewer that it’s her husband (Samuel Theis) and that the interview is over. A few minutes later, Samuel Maleski, Voyter’s academic husband, is found dead by their blind son and the family dog. This is the first in a series of uneasy discoveries in the course of the film.

It is revealed that Sandra and Samuel move to Grenoble from London to be able to deal better with their financial distress. Samuel also wants to treat this move away from the city as an opportunity to resume work on his long-pending book. He, instead, we are told, busies himself with renovating the chalet. When Sandra was interviewed, Samuel worked in the loft while listening to loud music.

Why do men find it almost insurmountably difficult to deal with a situation when the spotlight is not on them? Why do we still see women through the problematic lens of traditional gendered roles? Samuel evokes sympathy, post-mortem, just by virtue of being the male version of a domestically inclined woman. Someone who takes a career a bit easy to be able to care for a child with special needs. He continues with his academic job, makes the decision to move to his hometown, and repairs the newly bought chalet. But all of these choices make him deeply unhappy and dissatisfied especially when he sees himself pitted against an immensely successful spouse.

During the courtroom scenes, the inherent misogyny of “systems” comes to the fore as Sandra is deemed guilty of murdering her husband by almost everyone. In an era where intimate partner violence against women is a glaring reality, the ease with which her guilt is presumed drives home the prejudices that women must operate within for survival. Sample this latest finding from the US Department of Justice:

“Of the estimated 4,970 female victims of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter in 2021, data reported by law enforcement agencies indicates that 34% were killed by an intimate partner. By comparison, about 6% of the 17,970 males murdered that year were victims of intimate partner homicide.”

When the 11-year-old son of Sandra and Samuel, Daniel (Milo Machado Graner) becomes the key witness in the case, there is a sense of foreboding around his testimony. Has this child, too, internalised patriarchal attitudes? Or is he poised to be a different man, home-schooled as he is by his father and not so close to his mother? Will he defy the gendered rubrics that still operate in most households? The presence of Sandra’s former admirer (Swann Arlaud) as an attorney in the case complicates the issue even further. Does anyone trust Sandra? Will she be able to pull her innocence off, just like her success as a novelist?

Sandra has to defend not just herself but her creative production, too. Her characters are also on trial. The film also raises the question of artistic morality. Do artists get away with operating in the grey zones of amorality? How much of themselves do they distil in their works? Can their art be called to the witness box?

During the trial, a lot is revealed about not just the victim and the suspect but also the people involved in the proceedings. Are legal processes still stuck in the virgin-witch double-barrelled gun?

Sandra moved to a chalet in the French Alps at the instance of her French husband, mimicking most women upending their own lives for a life together with their partners. But is it enough for Samuel? They speak in English, a middle language for both of them. Is that enough for Samuel? Sandra keeps cajoling Samuel to resume his writing and gives feedback. Is that enough for Samuel? Or, is it all a trap for Samuel?

The prosecution feels Samuel’s blood incriminates Sandra. At a metaphorical level, his whole being incriminates her. Can Sandra wipe these blood stains off? Justine Triet’s film works equally well at both levels. And at both these levels, the family dog plays a key role.

It’s always the dog that saves your soul. And that’s the animal we need around us.

Kamal Nath Asked To Quit Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Post: Sources

Kamal Nath Asked To Quit Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Post: Sources

Kamal Nath won from his Chhindwara constituency (File)

Kamal Nath — former Chief Minister-turned-Madhya Pradesh Congress chief — has been asked to step down from the post, sources said a day after the party got decimated in a state they were sure of winning. The results yesterday showed the BJP had won 163 of the state’s 230 seats — more than double the Congress tally of 66.

The figures made it clear that the situation could not be further from the Congress reading of it.

The party, led by Mr Nath, was convinced that there was huge anti-incumbency against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

So convinced of victory was the party that on the morning of the counting day, posters came up congratulating Mr Nath on his victory. By noon, they had to be pulled down as the BJP established a comfortable lead.

With the party being convinced that anti-incumbency against the BJP would push the election in their direction, the Congress campaign strategy lacked an edge.

The party did not hold massive protests against the BJP to register its presence. The number of public meetings and rallies they held was almost half that of the BJP. This affected communication with the voters and made the party unable to carry its message across, leaders confided in private.

Mr Nath’s other move — denying the promised five to seven seats to INDIA bloc partner Samajwadi Party — has earned it the wrath of the alliance partners.

Sharing of seats at the state level was expected to be the blueprint for the bloc’s one-on-one strategy for next year’s general elections — dubbed a do-or-die battle with the BJP.

“The Congress has not been able to understand the ground situation in Madhya Pradesh. What harm could have happened if they had given 5-7 seats to Akhilesh Yadav? What have they won now?” National Conference chief Omar Abdullah was quoted as saying by news agency Press Trust of India.

“Judging the results of INDIA alliance in the state elections, if the situation is like this in the future, we cannot win,” he told reporters yesterday.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the Congress could have won Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, but “some votes were cut by INDIA parties”.

“This is the truth. We had suggested a seat-sharing arrangement. They lost because of division of votes,” she told the state assembly today.

Senior Congress leader Manickam Tagore underscored the importance of alliances and said it is the state-level leaders in the Hindi heartland “who need to understand it”.

“It is tough for the Congress to understand the importance of alliances because in states like MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan there is no alliance politics,” Manickam Tagore told NDTV.

A section of party workers also confided that the party needs a new face and fresh energy in the state, where it has been led for decades by Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh, both in their late ’70s. They pointed to Telangana where a new young leader, Revanth Reddy, has crafted a massive victory.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha's Suspension From Rajya Sabha Revoked After 115 Days

AAP MP Raghav Chadha's Suspension From Rajya Sabha Revoked After 115 Days

Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha’s suspension from the Rajya Sabha was lifted Monday – the first day of Parliament’s Winter Session – following a motion by BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao.

Mr Chadha was suspended August 11 for a “breach of privilege”. He had allegedly proposed the names of four MPs, without their consent, as members of a panel to study the controversial Delhi services ordinance, which gives the centre control over bureaucrats in the national capital.

“On August 11, I was suspended from the Rajya Sabha. I went to the Supreme Court for the revocation of my suspension. The Supreme Court took cognisance of this… and now my suspension has been revoked after 115 days. I want to thank the court and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar…” he said in a video statement shared by news agency ANI.
