Protesters, Cops Clash In Imphal Over Killing Of 2 Teens, Curfew Reimposed

Several protesters are reported to have been injured.

Imphal:

Protests against the killing of two students in Manipur intensified on Wednesday morning, leading to demonstrators clashing with police personnel in Imphal. Police baton-charged the protesters and fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.

Curfew has been reimposed in the state capital with immediate effect following the clashes.

Two photos of the girl and the boy, who went missing in July, emerged on Monday. The first photo shows the two teenagers – both of whom are 17 years old – sitting on the grass in what appears to be a jungle camp of an armed group. Two men with guns can be seen standing behind them. The next photo shows both of them dead, with their bodies lying on the ground.

Massive protests against the killings, led mainly by students, broke out on Tuesday night. The demonstrators attempted to march towards the residence of Chief Minister Biren Singh but were stopped.

The protest continued near Kangla Fort, close to the chief minister’s residence, on Wednesday morning. Clashes broke out between the protesters and the police and, when attempts to control the situation failed, the police personnel resorted to a baton charge and firing tear gas shells at the protesters.

Initial reports point to several protesters being injured, some of them grievously.

Chief Minister Biren Singh has announced a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the deaths of the two students. A team led by a special director of the agency reached Imphal this morning.

The prompt CBI investigation into the deaths of the students has sparked protests from members of the other community, who have accused the Biren Singh government of being partial ever since the ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3.

The reimposition of the curfew in Imphal comes a day after the ban on mobile internet was put in place in the state again. The mobile internet ban had been lifted only on September 23, almost five months after it had been imposed. It was reimposed on Tuesday following protests over the killings of the two students.

Fresh Violence In Manipur Over Dead Teens’ Photos, CBI To Probe Case

Violent protests in Manipur over the murder of teens

Guwahati:

A CBI team will visit the Manipur capital tomorrow to expedite the investigation in the case of brutal murder of two minors who went missing in July, announced Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a late night post.

The Chief Minister assured the people that his government, along with the Centre, is working to arrest the culprits.

Earlier today the ban on mobile internet was reimposed amid violent protests over the murders after photographs of the bodies went viral on social media. Also, all schools in the state have been closed till Friday.

Mobile internet services, which were suspended as ethnic violence erupted in Manipur in early May, were restored after over four months from September 23.

Hundreds of students tried to march towards N Biren Singh’s residence but were intercepted by security forces, who fired tear gas shells and smoke bombs to disperse the crowd. At least 34 students, including girls, were injured.

The two students whose deaths have provoked fresh tension in the state have been missing since July 6.

The photos that surfaced on social media show the two students sitting at the grassy compound of what appears to be a makeshift jungle camp of an armed group. The girl is in a white t-shirt while her friend, holding a backpack and in a checked shirt, looks on. Behind them, two men with guns are clearly visible. In the next photo, their bodies are seen slumped on the ground.

The two youths were identified as Phijam Hemjit and Hijam Linthoingambi.

The police had previously said that the whereabouts of the two were not known and their mobile phones were found switched off.

Manipur has been witnessing ethnic violence since early May.

‘Will Take CEO Outside Politics To Fix US Debt Crisis’: Vivek Ramaswamy

‘Will Take CEO Outside Politics To Fix US Debt Crisis’: Vivek Ramaswamy

Our national debt is at USD33 trillion and rising, Vivek Ramaswamy said.

Washington:

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has proposed a Zero-Base Federal Budgeting to solve the national debt crisis, which has now gone up to USD33 trillion.

The US national debt crisis is real and will take a CEO from outside of politics to fix it, he said on Monday.

“Here’s how we fix the debt crisis: zero-base budgeting. Start from zero for every department and ask what (if any) spending is required instead of just taking last year’s budget as the default,” Ramaswamy said.

That is how any good CEO would handle this mess, and it is something that both Republicans and Democrats can get behind, he added.

“Unfortunately, there isn’t a single red or blue state in this country that actually does it,” Ramaswamy added.

“I built a multibillion-dollar biotech company from scratch by developing five medicines now FDA-approved that the bureaucracy in big pharma abandoned,” he said.

“I built an insurgent asset manager to compete head-on with BlackRock and Vanguard by leading the crusade against the ESG bureaucracy. Now, I’m taking on the biggest bureaucracy of all, the federal government.

“Our national debt is at USD33 trillion and rising — we need a true outsider to fix it. Sign me up,” the Indian-American Republican presidential aspirant said.

Amid India-Canada Row, A Look At Khalistani Terrorist’s ‘Pakistan Links’

Amid India-Canada Row, A Look At Khalistani Terrorist’s ‘Pakistan Links’

New Delhi:

Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Arshdeep Dalla has links with Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and wanted to target Hindu leaders in Punjab, Delhi Police have found.

This assumes significance against the backdrop of the massive diplomatic row between India and Canada. Ties between New Delhi and Ottawa have strained after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Indian agents were behind the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June this year.

India responded strongly, calling the allegations “absurd” and “motivated”. What followed was a series of tit-for-tat moves and advisories, as India and Canada expelled envoys and warned their citizens against visits.

The Khalistani terrorist’s plan to target leaders of Hindu outfits and BJP’s ideological arm Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had emerged during a crackdown by Delhi Police against two terror suspects earlier this year. In January, police conducted a raid in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri and arrested Jagjeet Singh Jagga and Naushad following an arms recovery. The two were later charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

According to a Delhi Police chargesheet filed in court two months back, Jagga revealed during the interrogation that he was in touch with Dalla. The Canada-based Khalistani terrorist had asked Jagga to prepare for terror activities in Punjab, the chargesheet said.

Dalla was in touch with Suhail, a Lashkar handler. The arrested terror suspects had also told police that on the instructions of Suhail and Dalla, they murdered a Hindu boy at Delhi’s Jahangirpuri and chopped off his head. They also recorded a video and sent it to Suhail and Dalla. Police sources had then said Naushad and Jagga had sent the video to “prove their loyalty” and that they had received Rs 2 lakh for committing the heinous crime.

“During his period of absconding accused Jagjit Singh @ Jagga came in contact with designated Khalistani Terrorist Arshdeep @ Arsh Dala who had instructed him to murder some leaders of RSS and the prominent persons who are against the Khalistani Movement in Punjab. A nexus had developed between Pakistan-based Suhail, Naushad, Jagjit Singh @ Jagga and Arshdeep @ Arsh Dala to commit terror activities on the instruction of LeT and on the other hand on the instructions of designated terrorist Arsh Dala in Punjab and other parts of the country,” the Delhi Police chargesheet said.

“They have been tasked to kill Sadhus/ Religious leaders and also commit targeted killings in Punjab for which they have received money, weapons from Suhail and Arshdeep @ Dala,” it added.

Dalla, sources have said, had the complete backing of Pakistan’s ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba. It is also learnt that Dalla was close to Nijjar and to Khalistani terrorist Sukhdool Singh, who was recently killed in a gang war in Canada.

Dalla, 27, is from Moga district in Punjab and is an accused in at least 25 cases. The charges invoked against him include murder, criminal conspiracy and cases registered under Arms Act and anti-drugs law.
