India’s Sun Mission Aditya-L1 Takes Selfie, Clicks Images Of Earth, Moon

New Delhi:

India’s ambitious spacecraft mission, Aditya-L1, today sent pictures of the Earth and the Moon clicked as it heads to its destination Lagrangian point (L1) which is located 1.5 million km from the Earth.

The images were shared by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Twitter along with a selfie that Aditya-L1 had clicked.

“Aditya-L1, destined for the Sun-Earth L1 point, takes a selfie and images of the Earth and the Moon,” the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said.

The images show VELC (Visible Emission Line Coronagraph) and SUIT (Solar Ultraviolet Imager) instruments as seen by the camera on-board Aditya-L1 on September 4, 2023.

The mission lifted off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on September 2.

The spacecraft has already completed two earth-bound orbital manoeuvres and will perform two more before placing in the transfer orbit towards the Lagrange point L1. Aditya-L1 is expected to arrive at the intended orbit at the L1 point after 125 days.

The solar probe is helping ISRO notch up its second feat in less than a month after the country beat others to the lunar south pole in late August.

India’s other ongoing projects include a human spaceflight program that aims to launch astronauts into orbit for the first time possibly by 2025, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said.

India Vs Pakistan ODI World Cup Match Tickets Selling For Rs 50 Lakh, Fans Ask “What Is Happening?”

India Vs Pakistan ODI World Cup Match Tickets Selling For Rs 50 Lakh, Fans Ask “What Is Happening?”

World Cup tickets are selling for huge amounts on the secondary market.

The interest in the upcoming high-voltage clash between the Indian and Pakistan cricket teams at the ICC World Cup 2023 is reflecting in the ticket prices. The primary ticket sales outlets achieved a complete sellout within only one hour on two specific dates: August 29 and September 3.

However, the secondary market for ticket sales is also witnessing significant demand and an incredibly sharp increase in prices. For instance, a South Premium West Bay ticket is currently listed at an astonishing Rs 19.5 lakh on Viagogo, an online sports ticket platform.

There are only two tickets remaining for the upper tier, offering an unobstructed view, and they are being sold for an astonishing Rs 57 lakh each.

However, these extreme prices are also generating sharp reactions from social media users.

“What is happening? World Cup tickets for India vs. Pakistan range from 65,000 to 4.5 lakh “per ticket” on the Viagogo website! Daylight robbery from these corporations!,” commented a user.

“Tickets are available on Viagogo for the #INDvPAK World Cup match. Look at the prices,” wrote another user.

“Yesterday I saw a ticket for 15 lakh, and now it’s either sold out or else removed from the Viagogo app,” commented a third user.

Interestingly, tickets for other India matches at different venues are also commanding exorbitant prices on the secondary market. For example, tickets for the India vs Australia match on Viagogo start at a staggering Rs 41,000 and can soar to well over Rs 3 lakh. Likewise, tickets for the India vs England match are being sold at a high price of Rs. 2.3 lakh.

Medical Entrance Exam NEET Aspirant Dies By Suicide In Rajasthan

Medical Entrance Exam NEET Aspirant Dies By Suicide In Rajasthan

A medical aspirant died by suicide at a hostel in Rajasthan today. The student was preparing for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test or NEET medical exam at a coaching centre in Sikar.

Kaushal Kumar, from Raisana village, was taking classes at Allen coaching institute in Karauli district – a well-known institute for competitive exams with branches across the country.

Last month, two students died by suicide on the same day in Kota. Avishkar Shubhangi jumped from the sixth floor of the coaching institute after taking a test. In the evening, another student, Adarsh, died by hanging.

A spate of NEET-related suicides has been reported in the state over the past few years, especially from Kota, which is known as Rajasthan’s coaching hub. Many blame the pressure of studies and the fear of failure among students.

Kota coaching hubs are now roping in wardens, mess workers and tiffin service providers to look for any signs of depression or stress among the students staying in hostels and PG accommodation. The district administration in the city recently directed the coaching institutes to stop conducting routine tests for students preparing for NEET and other competitive exams for the next two months in the wake of the latest suicides.

Lakhs of students come to the state every year to prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams.

Amid the rising suicide cases among students in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently formed a committee that would submit a report on such cases.

“Will Pardon Trump If…”: Indian-American Presidential Hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy

“Will Pardon Trump If…”: Indian-American Presidential Hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy

Vivek Ramaswamy is notably the sole Republican presidential hopeful to openly endorse Trump

Washington:

Republican presidential aspirant Vivek Ramaswamy said on Sunday that while he expects to become the party’s nominee for the November 2024 US elections, will vote for Donald Trump if the former president secures the nomination.

Appearing on a Sunday talk show, the 38-year-old Indian American entrepreneur also expressed his intention to pardon Trump, who currently faces an array of legal challenges, should he be elected as President of the United States.

“If Donald Trump’s the nominee — yes, I will support him, and if I’m the president, yes, I will pardon him because that will help reunite the country. But it’s not the most important thing I’m going to do as the next president. It is the table stakes for moving this country forward,” Mr Ramaswamy told ABC news.

Following his impressive performance in the inaugural Republican primary presidential debate last month, Vivek Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur-turned-politician, has experienced a surge in popularity, competing alongside fellow Indian American rival Nikki Haley, the former Governor of South Carolina.

Mr Ramaswamy is notably the sole Republican presidential hopeful to openly endorse Trump, who is facing multiple charges and is currently out on bail, and his ‘America First’ policies, including stances on issues like climate change.

“My bottom line is that I will vote for the person who I think is best positioned to move this country forward. I do not think that’s Joe Biden. I do not think that is whichever other puppet, Kamala Harris or anybody else, that they roll out after Joe Biden,” he said.

Vivek Ramaswamy said while he may have disagreements with several of his Republican counterparts on various issues, he firmly believes that any of them would be more effective than Joe Biden or Kamala Harris in steering the US towards progress.

“That is my arbitrator when I cast my vote for who the next president is — who’s going to serve the interests of the American people? That’s not some sort of commitment driven by vengeance or grievance. It is driven by a commitment to our purpose as citizens of this country.

“That’s what we need to revive in the United States, our civic spirit, remembering that even the ‘America First’ movement is bigger than Donald Trump. It is bigger than me. It is bigger than one political candidate,” he said.

Mr Ramaswamy said the ‘America First’ movement belongs to the people of the US, the same people who still retain the power to elect their next president, and he aims to preserve this system rather than see it replaced by a federal police state determining the nation’s leadership, “and I stand by that without apology”.

Vivek Ramaswamy said he is in the US presidential race because he expects to be the Republican nominee and lead the country forward.

The Indian American candidate reiterated his opinion that many of the charges against Donald Trump are politically motivated that set a detrimental precedent for the United States.

“I do not want to see us become a banana republic where the administrative police state uses police force to eliminate opponents from competition. That’s not the way it works,” he said.
