“It's Much Better Equipped”: Karan Adani On Kerala's Vizhinjam Port

Karan Adani, the Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), on Friday said Kerala’s Vizhinjam Port is “much better equipped” and said it will “enable the growth” of the country.
The Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala – India’s first mega transshipment container terminal – was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday
It has been built by the APSEZ, the country’s biggest port developer and part of the Adani Group, in partnership with the government under a public-private model. The project cost around Rs 8,900 crore and received its commercial go-ahead in December last year after a successful trial phase.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration event, Mr Adani thanked PM Modi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for their support.
He also said the average cost of calling a ship to Vizhinjam Port would roughly be $40 per box.
“We have to be enablers of the growth in the country, and we do believe that whatever we are building today, it’s not enough. When we built this (port), everybody was questioning whether this would be filled up or not. Today, we are clocking almost 100 thousand moves every month,” he said.
Mr Adani said the APSEZ is targeting 90 per cent utilisation of the resources.
Speaking on the impact of tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, Mr Adani said that any disruption in trade routes “definitely impacts shipping lines and the movement of cargo”.
“In that way, some of the transhipment points actually benefit from disruptions because shipping lines will have to re-route some of the cargo. That is from a transhipment perspective. I think from a trade perspective, we are seeing that a lot of manufacturing is moving into India and the export boxes increasing from India to the US,” he added.

US, Ukraine Sign Minerals Deal: Reports

Ukraine and the U.S. said on Wednesday they signed an agreement on a joint fund to invest in Ukraine’s reconstruction, and a draft of the deal said it would give Washington preferential access to new Ukrainian natural resources deals.
The two countries signed the accord in Washington after months of sometimes fraught negotiations, with uncertainty persisting until the last-moment with word of an eleventh-hour snag.
“In recognition of the significant financial and material support that the people of the United States have provided to the defense of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion, this economic partnership positions our two countries to … accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery,” the U.S. Treasury Department said.
A draft of the minerals agreement seen by Reuters gave the U.S. preferential access to new Ukrainian natural resources deals but did not automatically hand Washington a share of Ukraine’s mineral wealth or any of its gas infrastructure.
It provided for creation of a joint U.S.-Ukrainian fund for reconstruction which will receive 50% of profits and royalties accruing to the Ukrainian state from new natural resources permits in Ukraine.

Pak Propaganda Punctured, Government Fact-Checks Claim On Army Commander

A wave of misinformation has flooded social media as Pakistan tries to push its propaganda online in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. One such misinformation pertains to Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, the commander of the Northern Army.
The government has found that several pro-Pakistan social media accounts have been “falsely claiming” that Lt Gen Kumar was removed from his post following the Pahalgam attack. Some reports even claimed Lt Gen Kumar was arrested or taken into custody for security lapses.
All these reports have been flagged as “false” by the Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking arm.
“Several pro-Pakistan social media accounts falsely claim that Northern Commander Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar has been removed from his post after the Pahalgam incident. The claims being made in these posts are fake,” said the government.
The government said Lt Gen Kumar is retiring on April 30. Lt Gen Pratik Sharma will be appointed as the Northern Army Commander after Lt Gen Kumar’s superannuation, the PIB Fact-Check said.
Yesterday, claims of an Indian Rafale fighter jet being shot down by Pakistan along the LoC were flagged as “false” by the government. Pakistan Army has not shot down any Indian fighter jet, the government had asserted.
On Monday, the government marked some documents being circulated online as “fake” amid claims that they were leaked information on the preparedness of the Indian Army.
The online propaganda appears to be part of Pakistan’s efforts to control the narrative war as it faces the serious charge of driving global terrorism.
Tensions have soared between the two countries as terror links to Islamabad emerged in the massacre of 26 civilians in Pahalgam on April 22. The terrorists who carried out the attack were said to be under the control of Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 attack and the chief of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group.
Since the terror attack, Pakistan has been violating ceasefires across the Line of Control with unprovoked firings at Indian Army posts. In a major escalation, their troops fired at the International Border last night. Indian soldiers guarding the border and the LoC responded effectively to all ceasefire violations.
Not just Pakistan’s Army, but even politicians and ministers have been making provocative statements. The latest was Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claiming that India is planning a “military action” in the next 24-36 hours.
Sources suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a free hand to the Indian armed forces to decide the target and timing of their response to the Pahalgam attack.
