BCCI Puts Iron Curtain Over Jasprit Bumrah's Fitness Status Going Into Champions Trophy: Report. Only 3 Know… | Cricket News

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has recently completed his five-week off-loading and has started his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy even as he races against time to get match-fit for the Champions Trophy. Off-loading is a concept where an athlete is advised complete rest, including staying away from gym work. The BCCI has put an iron curtain on the information coming out of NCA, and save four-five people associated with the centre of excellence and the Indian cricket team, no one else has an accurate information about the pacer’s latest fitness status.

However, PTI has learnt about the core team that is working with Bumrah at Bengaluru, as it tries its best to get one of the biggest match-winners of the Indian cricket team back on the park.

For the rehabilitation process of an injured centrally-contracted player, the norm for NCA is to allot one strength-and-conditioning coach, one physio for injury monitoring and a bowling or batting coach to monitor the skills part, which is also a part of Return To Play (RTP).

“Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coach Rajnikanth Sivagnanam and physio Thulasi Ram Yuvraj are currently working on Bumrah’s rehabilitation with Head of Sports Science, Dr Nitin Patel, personally monitoring the whole process.

“Obviously, the national team S&C coach Soham Desai and physio Kamlesh Jain are also kept in the loop,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

There were some social media reports that Bumrah is working with Desai at NCA but the latter is travelling with the Indian team for the ongoing series against England and is also expected to head to Dubai as part of the support staff for the Champions Trophy.

If and when Bumrah is allowed to bowl, it is expected that Troy Cooley will be monitoring that part, and the final report prepared by Patel about his availability will be sent to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma will also be notified about Bumrah’s status.

While the BCCI can straightaway name Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement if he fails to get ready in time, it is expected that the team would wait till last moment in order to get him ready for the marquee ICC event.

Bodies Of 28 Migrants Found In Mass Grave In Libya

Bodies Of 28 Migrants Found In Mass Grave In Libya

A devastating discovery has been made in Libya, where the bodies of 28 sub-Saharan migrants have been unearthed in a mass grave in the southeastern district of Kufra. This finding was made possible after a raid on a human trafficking site, where 76 sub-Saharan migrants were rescued from their captors. The migrants had been subjected to inhumane treatment, including torture and detention, at the hands of a ruthless gang.

According to the attorney general’s office, the raid was executed late Saturday, targeting a gang that had been depriving migrants of their freedom and subjecting them to cruel treatment. The bodies of the deceased migrants were found buried near the detention site, and three individuals, including one Libyan and two foreigners, have been arrested in connection with the atrocities.

The disturbing images of emaciated migrants with scars on their faces, limbs, and backs have been shared on social media, highlighting the dire situation faced by migrants in Libya. The country has struggled to recover from the chaos that followed the 2011 NATO-backed uprising, which toppled longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi. The ongoing instability has created a power vacuum, allowing smugglers and human traffickers to exploit vulnerable migrants.

Libya’s strategic location, just 300 kilometers from Italy, makes it a critical departure point for migrants seeking better lives in Europe. However, this journey is fraught with peril, as migrants risk their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea. The treatment of migrants and refugees in Libya has long been a subject of criticism, with rights groups accusing authorities of extortion, slavery, and other forms of abuse.

In a similar incident last month, two individuals were arrested for torturing and detaining 263 irregular migrants in El Wahat, eastern Libya. The prosecution alleged that the migrants were held captive to extort ransoms from their families, with demands ranging from $10,000 to $17,000. Furthermore, in March last year, a mass grave containing at least 65 migrants’ bodies was discovered in southwest Libya, highlighting the alarming scale of migrant deaths in the country.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has condemned the inadequate action taken to address the migrant crisis, stating that “the cost of inadequate action is evident in the increasing human deaths and the disturbing conditions migrants find themselves in”.

“It was a good performance in the first game. That’s what I loved about. The energy was very good despite not being on the field for a while. It was superb to watch after losing two wickets. Shreyas prides himself on that intent and attitude and not to forget the contributions of Shubman and Axar as well. Black soil pitch, not sure. Maybe play on the slower side, that’s what I expect. Two changes, Jaiswal makes way for Virat. Kuldeep is rested so Varun makes his debut.”

India vs England Live: Here’s what Jos Buttler said at the toss

After Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana made their ODI debuts in the first match, mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has also been handed over his maiden ODI cap ahead of the second match. This is going to be a big positive for India as Varun is in a terrific form.

  • 12:46 (IST)

India vs England Live: Impressive debut of Harshit Rana

Debutant Harshit Rana was taken apart by Phil Salt initially, and the young pacer ended up as the most expensive bowler at Nagpur, but he made crucial strikes, dismissing Ben Duckett and Harry Brook in the same over to turn the momentum in India’s favour. With fitness concerns lingering over lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Rana has an outside chance to push for his case with another fruitful outing.

  • 12:46 (IST)

India vs England Live: Return of Mohammed Shami

India’s bowling attack looks settled with fit-again pacer Mohammed Shami gradually settling in following his international comeback. Having started off with a maiden, Shami slowly got into the scheme of things in Nagpur and dictated the terms in the middle overs, returning with a fine 1/38 from his eight overs.

  • 12:42 (IST)

India vs England Live: Kohli eyes big feat

One-day cricket is Virat Kohli’s staple format, and the 36-year-old needs just 94 runs to become the third batter to reach 14,000 runs in the format after Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234) Having played 283 ODI innings, Kohli can also become the fastest to this milestone ahead of Tendulkar (350 innings) and Sangakkara (378).

  • 12:30 (IST)

India vs England Live: Rohit under scanner

India skipper Rohit Sharma’s struggles continued as he perished for just two in the first ODI, failing to shake off the disastrous run in the Test series against Australia. His dismissal — a mis-timed lofted shot off Liam Livingstone that ballooned to midwicket — reflected his desperation for runs. The Mumbai man has not scored a fifty in any format since August last year when he made 64 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in the third match.

  • 12:25 (IST)

India vs England Live: Who will Kohli replace?

Shreyas Iyer, who came in for Kohli at the last minute by his own admission, made a rollicking 36-ball 59 that has made dropping him an almost unthinkable act. If the past norms are followed, then Kohli will walk in for Shreyas, but it is more likely that Yashasvi Jaiswal could be the one who will have to make for the batting icon. It means that Gill might rejoin Rohit at the top, and Jaiswal did not have a blazing match either at Nagpur.

  • 12:22 (IST)

India vs England Live: Virat Kohli to return?

India had taken a 1-0 lead after their four-wicket win at Nagpur, but Virat Kohli getting rested owing to a “sore right knee” had raised concerns about his fitness ahead of the Champions Trophy later this month. However, vice-captain Shubman Gill had indicated that Kohli could be back for the second match, which will be played at a venue where the latter made a match-winning 85 against the West Indies in 2019.

Delhi Election Result 2025: “Congress Finishing Its Allies One-By-One, Steals Their Agendas”: PM Modi

Delhi Election Result 2025: “Congress Finishing Its Allies One-By-One, Steals Their Agendas”: PM Modi

New Delhi:

A jubilant Prime Minister Narendra Modi – celebrating his Bharatiya Janata Party‘s win in the 2025 Delhi election – ripped into an already battered Congress in a victory speech Saturday evening, accusing his rival of “stealing” agendas and voters from its allies, and “finishing (them), one by one”.

In a long speech at the BJP’s city HQ, he launched a ferocious attack, calling the Congress a “parasite party” and mocking it for failing to win a single seat in six consecutive major Delhi elections; the party has won zero seats in each of the last three state and federal elections in the city.

“I have said before… the Congress is a parasite party. They take other parties with them whenever they are drowning. Their method is unique… they steal their agendas and then target their voters. In Uttar Pradesh, they are targeting the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party voters,” he said.

“They are doing the same thing in Tamil Nadu (where the ruling DMK is an ally) and Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir. It is clear… whoever holds Congress’ hands, their end is inevitable.”

“Those who are holding the Congress’ hands are getting destroyed… because it is not the same Congress that was there before Independence… today it is doing ‘urban Naxal’ politics. They want to bring anarchy… and AAP-da (the BJP’s pejorative term for the AAP) was trying to do the same.”

The Prime Minister’s broadside at the Congress comes amid increasing uncertainty over the INDIA opposition bloc led by the party. Formed in June 2023 to defeat the BJP in state and federal elections, the group has floundered and flattered to impress in most of the 14 major polls since; the exception, perhaps, was the Lok Sabha election in April-June last year, in which the BJP was held to <300 seats.

And the Congress has come under fire for failing to agree seat-share deals with smaller INDIA bloc members, including the AAP. The two parties, which joined hands for the Delhi Lok Sabha election (which ended in a BJP clean sweep anyway) were expected to re-ally for last year’s Haryana poll.

That, however, did not happen after the Congress’ state unit simply refused to play ball. Similarly, expectations of an AAP-Congress deal before the Delhi election were also dashed.

In each case the AAP and Congress’ vote shares combined would have been more than that won by the BJP. Whether that would have translated to more votes is unclear, but it does indicate there is still space for a non-BJP coalition front, so long as it is functions long enough to contest an election.

A functional opposition front may still not be enough to defeat Mr Modi and his BJP’s formidable election-winning machinery, but it will, at the least, make elections more closely fought.

Great Indian Bustard Found Dead Inside Cage In Rajasthan. Why It Matters?

Great Indian Bustard Found Dead Inside Cage In Rajasthan. Why It Matters?

Jaisalmer:

A five-year-old Great Indian Bustard, one of the rarest bird species in the world, was found dead inside a cage at a breeding centre in Jaisalmer’s Sudasari village.

Listed as ‘critically endangered’ on the IUCN Red List since 2011, the Great Indian Bustard is one of the heaviest flying birds in the world.

DNP Deputy Forest Conservator Bujmohan Gupta said an injury mark was found on the bird’s head during examination after it was brought to the Desert National Park (DNP) office.

“Yesterday we received information about the death of a female Great Indian Bustard. The Great Indian Bustard is the state bird of Rajasthan and their number is very less in our country…The Great Indian Bustard had a head injury…The medical department conducted the post-mortem and the last rites were performed as per protocol. We will send samples to Bareilly and Dehradun,” the Deputy Forest Conservator said in a video posted on X by ANI.

The population of the rare bird, almost exclusively in found in India, has steadily declined by 75% in last 30 years, according to a report by the Wildlife Institute Of India.

Samples from the bird’s body have been sent to a laboratory in Dehradun to determine the cause of death, officials said. The bird was cremated as per protocol, confirmed Mr Gupta.

The population of the rare bird, almost exclusively in found in India, has steadily declined by 75% in last 30 years, according to a report by the Wildlife Institute Of India.

Preliminary reports suggest that the bird may have collided with the cage while flying or succumbed to another cause, say officials. However, the exact reason will be determined only after the laboratory analysis of the samples, Mr Gupta added.

World Wide Fund for Nature (India) says one of the biggest threat to this species is hunting. This is followed by occasional poaching outside Protected Areas, collisions with high tension electric wires, fast moving vehicles and free-ranging dogs in villages.

In Big Relief For Siddaramaiah, High Court Refuses CBI Inquiry In MUDA Case

In Big Relief For Siddaramaiah, High Court Refuses CBI Inquiry In MUDA Case

Bengaluru:

In a big relief to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Karnataka High Court has refused to transfer the probe into the land scam case linked to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice M Nagaprasanna today rejected a petition by activist Snehmayi Krishna who had sought the court to transfer the probe from the Lokayukta police.

The corruption allegation against Siddaramaiah concerns a land parcel that his wife BM Parvathi was awarded by the MUDA in compensation for another piece of land that she owned.

Mr Krishna’s lawyer argued that the Lokayukta may not conduct a fair probe into the case since it was a state authority and the accused is the Chief Minister of the state.

Senior advocates Kapil Sibal and AM Singhvi, appearing for the state and Siddaramaiah respectively, opposed Mr Krishna’s petition and said a probe could be transferred to another agency only if either of the parties believed it was mala fide. However, the Lokayukta has submitted its report in a sealed cover and no one knew its content, argued Mr Sibal.

The allegations have snowballed into a massive controversy with the BJP demanding Siddaramaiah to step down from his post. The Congress leader has denied the charges and said that the MUDA case is politically motivated.

The case came to the fore after activists alleged that the grant of compensatory land caused a loss worth crores to the state. They also accused top MUDA officials of being involved in the alleged scam.

According to the complaint, Ms Parvathi was gifted a three-acre land by her brother, and despite being privately owned, MUDA went ahead and developed it. She then claimed compensation and was awarded 14 plots worth much more than the three-acre land.

Last July, the Karnataka Governor sanctioned a corruption case against Siddaramaiahn after three activists – Snehamayi Krishna, TJ Abraham, and Pradeep Kumar – lodged a complaint with him.

Siddaramaiah went to the Karnataka High Court against this decision and argued that though he was the chief minister at that time, he had no role in MUDA awarding the compensatory land to his wife.

However, the court rejected his petition and ordered the Lokayukta to file a case of corruption, cheating, and forgery against Siddaramaiah and the other accused.

Activist Krishna then requested the court to transfer the case to the CBI.
