IPL star anchor Sahiba Bali has broken her silence following intense social media scrutiny and widespread criticism. The controversy ignited when archived interview footage resurfaced online, featuring her past remarks regarding a visit to Pakistan and her critique of the movie The Kashmir Files.
Origin of the Controversy
The debate was sparked by two specific clips from an old interview that recently gained significant traction across digital platforms:
Remarks on Pakistan: In the viral footage, Bali recounted a trip to Pakistan during her teenage years. She described the experience as “eye-opening” and spoke positively of the local population, praising them as “warm and welcoming.”
Critique of The Kashmir Files: A separate segment showed Bali sharing her personal opinion on the film, where she labeled it a “poor film” and suggested it was promoting a “narrative.”
These statements drew heavy fire from netizens, leading many to question her perspectives and sparking a heated debate regarding her role as a high profile sports presenter.
Sahiba Bali’s Official Response
In response to the escalating situation, Sahiba Bali issued a formal clarification to address the misunderstandings and express her regret over the hurt caused. She emphasized that the circulated clips were being viewed out of their original context.
“An old clip of mine from few years ago is being circulated shortened out of context and misunderstood to reflect a limited view about ONLY a film – NOT about history or denying the turbulent past of a community whose pain I’ve well known, vocalised and felt for.”
Sahiba Bali wrote a lengthy apology to all those who trolled her.
Imagine, a woman has to apologize for words she said almost 4 years ago.
What kind of democratic system is this where a woman doesn’t have the right to express her opinion? pic.twitter.com/UeER7U4pBL

Bali further reflected on the current global climate and cited her personal values as a guiding force during this period of conflict.
“The world is a scary place today with anger, hate and conflict, where I remember what my Dadi taught me: Nirbhau, Nirvair- without fear, without hate. However, I regret that my choice of words or opinion about a film have been dismissive and hurtful which was not and never will be my intention.”
Commitment to National Identity
Concluding her statement, Bali reaffirmed her patriotism and her dedication to fostering a sense of togetherness within the country.
“I’m a proud Indian who knows well and understands the weight of history and its impact on our people. But I want to say this clearly and those who know me can affirm as a reflection of my love for our country I’ve repeatedly stood up for empathy, respect, and unity and I’ll continue to do so. Always. -Sahiba.
A large section of users connected her remarks to tragic incidents such as the 2008 Mumbai attacks and events in Pahalgam, arguing that her statement overlooked deeply rooted historical trauma. This emotional backdrop significantly intensified the scale of outrage and online debate.
