Rupee to rally on oil slide below pre-Iran war levels, bucks Asia weakness

Rupee is likely to climb at the open on Thursday, aided by a continued drop in oil prices below pre-Iran war ‌levels, while Asian peers were under pressure from safe-haven dollar demand.

The rupee is expected ⁠to open in the 94.25-94.30 range, per traders, having settled at 94.6650 on Wednesday.

Japan’s Nikkei rises over 3.5% as AI shares rally on Micron forecast

Japan’s Nikkei share average jumped more than 3.5% on Thursday as AI-related shares surged after U.S. memory chipmaker Micron’s ‌upbeat quarterly profit and revenue forecast.

The Nikkei was up 3.72% at 71,754.53, ⁠as of 0159 GMT, set to snap two consecutive sessions of declines, if the current momentum holds. The broader ‌Topix rose 1.34% to 4,016.71.

The recent downturn in tech-heavy Nikkei followed a sharp decline ‌in semiconductor firm SK Hynix earlier ‌this week.

Micron, ⁠a key supplier for Nvidia AI processors ⁠alongside South Korean chipmakers, forecast quarterly profit and revenue well above expectations and said customers had committed $22 billion to secure memory chip supply, ‌sending its shares surging 12% in after-hours trade on Wednesday.

Shares of SK Hynix, also a supplier to Nvidia, rose as much as 11.1% ‌in early morning trade on Thursday. (Reuters)

Asia Stocks Jump With US Futures on Micron Outlook

Asian stocks rallied with US equity futures after Micron Technology Inc.’s blowout sales outlook reignited confidence in the artificial-intelligence trade.

Contracts for the Nasdaq 100 were up almost 2% while those for the S&P 500 rose 0.5%. 

South Korea’s Kospi benchmark surged nearly 5% in early trading and the broader MSCI Asia Pacific Index jumped more than 1%. Micron, the largest US maker of computer memory chips, soared about 15% after the market close as its quarterly sales forecast crushed Wall Street estimates, signaling that an AI-fueled growth run remains strong.

Gold extends losses on Fed tightening outlook, dollar strength

Gold prices extended losses on Thursday, hovering near the more-than-seven-month low hit a day earlier, as the dollar held firm on rising ‌expectations of Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. 

Spot gold was down 0.4% at $3,985.89 per ⁠ounce, as of 0043 GMT, after hitting its lowest level since November 2025 on Wednesday. 

U.S. gold futures for ‌August delivery lost 0.2% to $4,001.60. 

Bullion fell below the key $4,000-per-ounce level for the first ‌time since November 2025 on Wednesday, pressured ‌by ⁠a stronger dollar and expectations of Fed ⁠rate hikes.

Crude oil prices fall as tankers exit Strait of Hormuz

Oil prices extended their decline on Thursday, edging closer to pre-war levels as stranded tankers exited the Strait of Hormuz following an initial accord to end the ‌U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, easing supply concerns.

Prompt-month Brent crude futures for August delivery fell 40 cents, or ⁠0.54%, to $73.34 a barrel as of 0004 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate fell 27 cents, or 0.38%, to $70.07 a barrel.

August Brent was trading ‌lower than September, which was priced at $73.59, signalling ample short-term supply.

Brent had fallen more than $3 on Wednesday as supply concerns eased, and WTI settled down nearly $3.
