has added the direct access of Lens image search option to its homepage.

According to 9To5Google, users can “search any image with Lens” by clicking the button that appears next to the voice search button and can “drag an image here or upload a file”.

“The homepage doesn’t change often, but it did. We are always working to expand the kinds of questions you can ask and improving how we answer them,” Rajan Patel, vice president of engineering at Google, said in a tweet.

“Now you can ask visual questions easily from your desktop,” he added.

Lens made the switch from mobile devices to the desktop web with Google Photos and later Chrome last year, the report said.

Back in August, Google Images on desktop websites moved to Lens and it also showed up in the search field on the results page.

Google Lens is an image recognition tool that uses visual analysis to identify things and display relevant information about them.

Earlier, the tech giant was reportedly tested to add Lens to desktop Search on the web.

According to a report, Lens was primarily a visual lookup tool for mobile devices, but it has been branching out to Chrome. The next expansion could see Google Search on the desktop web add Lens.

Google announces plans to discontinue Street View app on Android next year

has announced plans to discontinue its dedicated Street View app on next year.

According to 9To5Google, the tech giant has prepared a number of shutdown messages for the Street View app.

In the notice, the company advice users to move to Maps or Street View Studio, as the Street View app will end on March 31, 2023.

“Street View App is going away and support will end March 21, 2023,” the company was quoted as saying in the report.

“To publish your own 360 video, switch to Street View Studio. To view Street View and add Photo Spheres, use Maps.”

Street View makes it simple to get a 360-degree view of almost any street, making it ideal for researching potential trip destinations or to just take a casual tour of the world from the comfort of home, the report said.

Earlier, with an aim to enhance user experience, Google Maps had brought back ‘Street View’ experience to India to help people navigate and explore places more visually and accurately.

The Indian government had suspended the service more than a decade ago as it failed to secure required security clearances.

Among the upcoming deadlines is November 7 set by Musk to rejig the company’s subscription model, called Blue. On Tuesday, Musk announced that users will be able to buy “blue ticks” for a monthly subscription of $8. Earlier, reports emerged that the price could be as high as $20 per month. For the users who do not pay for Blue, the verification ticks would be taken away.

What is the indigenous 5G testbed?

What is the indigenous 5G testbed?

A lot has been said and written about the application of for enterprises and individual users. While you and I look forward to more immersive experience with our devices and collaboration tools, enterprises in India face a looming capacity challenge.

Businesses in India are now at an early stage of discovering the potential of 5G, in relation to industrial automation, process management, private networks and more.

Taking a step towards becoming self-reliant in that direction, the government has recently announced a test bed project for start-ups and industry players in India.

The goal of the project is to provide start-ups and industry players an end-to-end test bed to test and validate their equipment for services

The idea is to allow R&D teams of Indian academia and industry to test and validate their prototypes and products locally. Engineers examine 5G applications in test bed environment before a commercial rollout. This allows them to understand how the network will perform in real-world applications.

In the absence of the indigenous 5G test bed, Indian start-ups and industry players would have to take their products abroad for testing and validation purposes.

According to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the indigenous 5G test bed would help in digitising the economy, boosting start-up ecosystem, improving governance, ease of living and facilitating ease of doing business.

A collaborative project led by IIT Madras, the 5G test bed has been set up at a cost of around Rs 220 crores. It will be available at five different locations in the country. Other institutes collaborating in the project are IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, Indian Institute of Science, the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research, and the Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology.

The test bed comprises of 5G base station and user equipment nodes with support for most 5G-related services to replicate deployment in a real-world-like environment. These services include enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-low latency communication and massive machine-type communication including narrowband IoT services.

Likewise, the test bed supports both sub-6GHz and millimetre-wave operating frequencies. With 5G test bed, the local 5G equipment makers would be able to design and fabricate high-end communication components such as baseband processing units, remote radio heads, RF modules, core networks, network interconnects and baseband algorithms and software.

That said, the indigenous 5G test bed would allow industry players to develop a fully functional 5G stack that would be essential for the rollout of India’s own 5G standard, referred to as 5Gi.

Ashwini Vaishnav, Minister of Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, recently said that the indigenous 5G stack is in the works and would be readied by September-October this year.

All 5G phones except iPhone to work on Airtel network from mid-Nov: CEO

All 5G phones except iPhone to work on Airtel network from mid-Nov: CEO

All enabled smartphones, except Apple’s iPhones, will start supporting Airtel services by the middle of this month, a senior official said.

During the company’s earnings call, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Gopal Vittal said Apple will release the software update in the first week of November and all of its devices should support the company’s services by mid-December.

Airtel is providing 5G services at 4G rates but it is likely to take call on the pricing of the next generation services in the next 6-9 months, he added.

“Samsung… I think there are 27 models of 5G. 16 models are already ready and enabled. Rest will happen by November 10-12. OnePlus all 17 models will work on our network. Vivo all 34 models, Realme all 34 models will work on our network. Xiaomi’s all 33 models and Oppo all 14 models will work. Apple has 13 models. They will have (software update) release around the first week of November and by mid-December they should be all ready,” Vittal said.

According to market research firm IDC, 5.1 crore 5G were shipped from 2020 to first half of 2022 and they are expected to cross 50 per cent market share by 2023.

However, several 5G have been unable to access 5G services due to lack of compatibility between the network and the mobile phone.

Vittal said the company expects to cover all towns in urban India as also key rural areas by March 2024.

He said the company is in the 5G network construction phase and “then we take decision as to what we do, may be, in next 6-9 months.”

“As the network starts getting built out we will see a significant part of our existing data traffic on 4G move to Airtel 5G plus. This is important since it will allow us to gradually move more and more spectrum to 5G at the flick of a button. We have also started testing the SA (standalone) mode on 5G. This mode may be relevant for some enterprise use cases,” he said.

may advance earmarked network investment of Rs 23,000-24,000 crore per annum to expedite rollout of 5G services and gain market share.

Without naming debt-ridden Vodafone Idea, Vittal said, “Given the financially pressed situation that one of the players in the Industry is going through, we feel that the moment is ripe for Airtel pulling ahead and being the decisively most aspirational brand in India. With this we hope to take a further lead particularly in the postpaid segment.”

Bharti Airtel has posted an 89 per cent year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit for the September quarter at Rs 2,145 crore, as higher revenue per user, more data consumption, and expanded 4G base boosted realisations.

Airtel’s total revenue rose nearly 22 per cent year-on-year to Rs 34,527 crore during the just-ended quarter.

The company attributed this to “strong and consistent performance delivery across the portfolio and crossing 500 million customers globally”.

The Q2 net profit trailed street expectations, though the revenue numbers came in higher than market estimates.

The Average Revenue Per User or ARPU (a key metrics for telcos) stood at Rs 190 for the just-ended quarter as compared to Rs 153 in Q2 FY22, helped by focus on quality customers, feature phone to smartphone upgradation and data monetisation, Airtel said.

Vittal said that the company has only 8.5 per cent return on investments which is very low and can be achieved by investing in financial instruments.

“This return on capital needs to go up. We are not talking about massive corrections. We are already at Rs 190 ARPU. We need to see one round of correction. When this will happen I am not at liberty to say. We are watching this space and see when the time is ripe,” he said.

Users can soon use ‘Message Yourself’ feature as WhatsApp tests new feature

Users can soon use ‘Message Yourself’ feature as WhatsApp tests new feature

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly testing a self-messaging feature that would allow you to send messages to yourself more easily.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now testing some improvements for sending messages to yourself for some beta testers on its beta apps for Android and iOS.

WhatsApp is now conducting a small test by rolling out “messages with yourself” to a select group of beta testers following the release of the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.22.24.2 update.

Some beta testers found that WhatsApp is now highlighting that chat by adding “ yourself” as the chat caption after updating to the most recent version of the Android app, according to the report.

In this, WhatsApp has a new chat option called “Me (You)” that allows you to send messages to just yourself.

Meanwhile, you can still use WhatsApp to yourself by using the wa.me (Click to link) or by creating a group in which you are the only participant.

But if you want to send an important message later or transfer files between your devices, then messaging yourself can be a useful feature or the best way to communicate with yourself.
