From October 31 Indian app developers and startups offering videos, audio content, or e-books may have to pay only a 6 per cent commission for the in-app purchases on Google Play Store, a report by Economic Times (ET) stated. This comes after Google announced a change in its billing system allowing the developers to pay via mechanisms other than the Google Play billing system.
Other apps will have to pay around 11 per cent commission if they choose to pay from other platforms, the report added.
The latest commission rates are considerably lower than the original rates introduced by Google while announcing the Play store policy two years ago. It currently charges a 30 per cent commission from the developers and startups.

Several startups had approached the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to launch a probe. According to ET, the probe is in its final stages.
An expert was quoted in the ET report as saying that when a customer now opts for an alternative billing option, Google will have to forego the cost of processing payments. It approximately stands at 4 per cent.
“So, in user choice billing, if the user chooses the developers billing, as opposed to Google Play Store billing, the service fee will be reduced by 4 per cent, which is the kind of generalised cost of doing the payment processing. But other than that, all the other services are the same,” he told ET.
Apart from India, Google is also introducing the new system to Australia, Indonesia, Japan, and European Economic Area.

Realme is ready to launch its GT Neo 3T in India on Friday. Ahead of its launch, the Chinese smartphone brand said it would offer up to a Rs 7,000 discount during its first sale. Reportedly, the deal is said to essentially make it the most affordable smartphone, offering support of 80W charging speed and featuring a Snapdragon 870 SoC. The smartphone was launched this June globally.
The Realme GT Neo 3T price in India is yet to be revealed. Realme launched the smartphone at the cost of $469.99 (Rs 37,500) in the global market.
The company will launch the model at 12:30 pm as per the handset’s dedicated landing page.
The Indian variant of Realme GT Neo 3T will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, and it will have a “racing flag design” at the rear panel.
Realme GT Neo 3T would also sport 5G connectivity.
To recall, the global variant of Realme GT Neo 3T sports a 6.62-inch E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Realme claims that this display offers up to 1300 nits of peak brightness. Moreover, this global variant features HDR10+ support and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, coupled with Adreno 650 GPU and 8GB of RAM.

Apple iOS 16 software update brings back the much-requested battery indicator on iPhones. Introduced on June 6 at WWDC, the next-generation version of iOS was released to the public on September 12.
Besides that, the update introduced redesigned and customisable Lock Screens with widgets, the ability to edit and delete messages, improved Focus modes, an iCloud Shared Photos Library for families, major improvements for apps like Mail, Home, and Wallet, and much more.
However, not all iOS 16 eligible iPhones will get the battery indicator in the status bar. In a supported document, Apple says that iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini don’t display battery percentage.
The battery percentage display icon was dropped with the launch of iPhone X in 2018. The new toggle for battery indicator can be found within the Settings app in the Battery option. It allows users to always see the device’s battery percentage status in the status bar directly. At present, a user has to swipe down into the Control Centre to see the battery level on iPhones.

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is likely working on a new update that will allow users to create polls in chat.
With this feature, which is under development, group participants will be able to share polls with other members of the group. It will be possible to add up to 12 options but this value may change before the release of the feature, reports WABetaInfo.
This feature is under development so it is not ready to be released to beta testers.
As per the report, an entry point for the feature will be available within the usual chat action sheet where you can find all other media sharing options and it opens the section that we spotted during the development of WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.10.11.
A recent report said that WhatsApp is likely working on a feature that will add a new camera shortcut for iPhone users on their app.
A screenshot showed that the camera shortcut is placed within the navigation bar and it will show up for those users that can already create a community in the future.
It looks exactly like the one implemented on WhatsApp beta for Android (but since there was a bug, it has temporarily been removed in another update), the report had said.

Tech giant Google is said to be working on a new Pixel mini smartphone that might come with a small screen.
According to GizmoChina, the leaker said this device is codenamed ‘neila’. It features a centered punch-hole display and the visor-like rear design found on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 family of handsets.
Unfortunately, it is unknown whether the smartphone is part of the Pixel 7 series. Therefore, it may or may not be called the Pixel 7 Mini.
As per the report, upcoming Google products are generally spotted in the codebase. In the case of the Pixel Mini, it is yet to be found inside the software.
Meanwhile, Google is all set to announce new Pixel 7 smartphones with the second-generation chip as well as the Pixel Watch on October 6.
Called ‘Made by Google,’ the hardware launch event will see new devices, as shown by the company at its I/O developer conference earlier this year.
Google has confirmed Pixel 7 series will run on a second-generation aTensor G2′ chip.
The Tensor chip was built in partnership with Samsung, enhancing Exynos-like processors with Google’s machine learning prowess.

Samsung is set to announce massive price cuts on some of its premium Galaxy series smartphones during the upcoming festive season sales.
Galaxy S21 FE 5G and Galaxy S20 FE 5G will get biggest price cuts, sources told IANS.
Galaxy S21 FE 5G (Rs 49,999) will be available on Flipkart between Rs 32,000-Rs 35,000.
Galaxy S20 FE 5G (Rs 40,000) will retail on Amazon at its best-ever price between Rs 27,000-Rs 30,000, the sources added.
Samsung India will also unveil other deals during the Great India Festival on Amazon and Big Billion Days on Flipkart, set to start next week.
The company will announce festive offers on Galaxy S22+ and S22, Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3 as well as its entire range of Galaxy M and F series of smartphones.
Galaxy S21 FE 5G comes with triple camera, 6.4-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate and a powerful processor.
Galaxy S20 FE 5G, with Snapdragon 865, comes with flagship features like 120Hz refresh rate, 30x space zoom and a 4500mAh battery with wireless charging.
Samsung received a record one lakh pre-booking orders for its newly-launched Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 foldable smartphones in India till September 1.
Samsung led the broader smartphone market with 22 per cent value market share in the first six months of the year.
