52% of organisations express security concerns in using GenAI: Report

As generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is being deployed across organisations, 52 per cent of the respondents expressed security as a top concern, according to the latest CIO survey by Recognize, a technology investment platform that focuses exclusively on the tech services industry.

Complexity emerged as the second primary concern at 39 per cent, followed by the need for hardware resources and the potential for inaccurate results at 33 per cent. The impact on jobs and sourcing talent to manage these systems stood at 31 per cent, followed by lower return on investment, which was a worry for 20 per cent of the respondents.

The findings are based on a survey of 500 US-based CIOs and are relevant for Indian organisations that have clients in the US. North America is the largest market for the top Indian IT services companies that are betting big on GenAI.

In terms of the most-utilised GenAI products within organisations, the survey revealed that 82 per cent of the organisations use ChatGPT most frequently, followed by Copy.ai at 29 per cent, with open-source solutions close behind at 28 per cent. Bard and Claude are utilised by 27 per cent and 25 per cent of respondents, respectively, while Jasper is used by 24 per cent. Chatsonic, however, appears less frequently used, with just 16 per cent of organisations implementing it.

The survey also delved into organisations’ approach to GenAI technologies such as ChatGPT and Bard. Forty-three per cent of organisations reported having already deployed them in an enterprise application or process. Meanwhile, 21 per cent of respondents have individuals experimenting on their own. Prototyping for enterprise use and large projects underway account for 17 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively. Interestingly, only 4 per cent of organisations are not using GenAI at all, and only 1 per cent have explicitly banned its use.

The survey revealed that many organisations are contemplating developing their own proprietary large language models. A significant portion of respondents, 42 per cent, confirmed they plan to do so, while another 41 per cent are still evaluating or considering this possibility. Only 7 per cent indicated they have yet to make plans to build their own proprietary large language model.

The respondents held largely positive views when asked about the expected impact of AI on their organisation over the next two years. Forty-six per cent of the companies predict AI will lead to significant use cases that drive productivity. Twenty-four per cent foresee select use cases, without a major impact. A significant 22 per cent expect a transformational impact from AI. Conversely, a small fraction of organisations, 7 per cent, do not anticipate much impact from AI.

Apple working on affordable MacBook lineup to challenge Chromebooks: Report

Apple working on affordable MacBook lineup to challenge Chromebooks: Report

the New MacBook is expected to be much cheaper than the entry level MacBook Air

Apple is working on a new entry-level MacBook series in response to the growing popularity of Chromebooks, especially in the educational field, according to a report by Digitimes. The rumoured MacBook will be different from the current line and significantly cheaper from the MacBook Air and Pro series models.

Over the past few years, Chromebooks with its cheaper price and ease of use have overtaken Apple’s iPad in the education sector. With the surge in demand for online learning post pandemic, it makes sense for Apple to rejuvenate its interest in this market.

While the budget MacBook can continue using metal casing, Apple might have to change the material used in those cases to cut the prices as the new laptop is expected to be much cheaper than the entry level MacBook Air. Digitimes also stated that the New MacBook can be out earliest by the end of 2024 as Apple has a nine-month development cycle for moving from development to mass production.

While the 13.6-inch display model has been around for several years, the 15-inch display model was introduced recently. It sports a liquid retina display and is powered by an M2 processor. The MacBook Air 15 comes with a six-speaker audio system, compared to 4 on the 13-inch variant. The ports on the bigger model are the same with MagSafe charging, two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack

Locally made iPhone 15 to go on sale in India soon after Sept 12 launch

Apple took around a month to make the iPhone 14 available in the country despite its partner Foxconn starting production at the Chennai facility mere days after the global launch

Apple is reportedly planning to launch the iPhone 15 in India alongside global launch, according to a news report in the Economic Times. Last year, Apple took around a month to make the iPhone 14 available in the country despite its partner Foxconn starting production at the Chennai facility mere days after the global launch. This year, the made in India iPhone 15 is expected to hit the stores in the country alongside global launch. The local produce would initially be used by Apple to cater to India, before it starts exporting the units to Europe and US by the end of 2023.

As per media reports, production of the iPhone 15 began in China in June this year. With Apple looking to diversify its supply chain away from China, catering the Indian market with locally manufactured devices is a big step in that direction.

India being the third largest smartphone market in the world saw Apple breaking revenue records with sales growing by double digits in Q3 2023, according to Tim Cook. Apple is also now the largest smartphone exporter in India.

Apple is hosting the iPhone 15 launch on September 12 in an event called Wonderlust. Apple is likely to launch four iPhone models, encompassing the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models as well as the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Important to note, only the iPhone 15 model is being manufactured in India for now. The other three models are expected to follow.

As for the expected changes, the 2023 iPhones would get power delivery through USB-C port. The Pro models would come with USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 and the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus would support USB 2.0. While the entire lineup of the iPhone 15 series is expected to get the Dynamic Island, the Pro models might also get the titanium frame with thinner bezels around the display. New camera sensors and colour coded cables are likely to be included in the package.
