Married Woman Calls Out BharatMatrimony After Her Photo Used On Fake Profile

BharatMatrimony, one of India’s leading matrimonial platforms, has landed in a huge controversy after a married woman’s photo appeared on its elite subscription service under a fake profile. The woman, Swati Mukund, called out the platform on Instagram, labelling it “BharatMatrimony Scam.”

In a now-viral video shared on Instagram, Ms Mukund clarified she did not meet her husband through any matrimonial app and strongly warned others to be careful while using the platform.

“More acrimony than matrimony, I guess!” she wrote alongside the video.

Ms Mukund, who has more than two lakh followers, pointed out that her husband was in the first part of the video to prevent the app from using their photo to falsely claim that they had met on BharatMatrimony.

The video begins with Ms Mukund addressing the issue, saying, “So, this is a post on India’s number 1 and supposedly most trusted matrimonial app, BharatMatrimony.” A screenshot from the app appears in the video, showing her photo along with the overlay words “BharatMatrimony Scam.”

“As you can see, the picture used is of mine and for the record, this is my husband. No, I didn’t find him on any of these apps,” she clarified.

She was shocked after finding her picture was used in the app’s elite subscription service, a feature that promises to carefully curate profiles for users paying a premium for the service.

“What really appalled me is the fact that this is BharatMatrimony’s elite subscription service, where they are actually charging people pots of money and claim that they are screening and carefully curating profiles to make sure their users find the right life partner,” Ms Mukund said.

Others have shared their own experiences with the matrimonial website.

A user commented, “I have used their elite matrimony paying 1.5 lakhs…it’s the biggest scam. They give you the same few options over and over for one year.”

Another asked to “Sue them big time.”

Someone claimed, “Most of the matrimonial sites use profiles of married people. Even i have reported many.”

“Thanks for raising awareness about this issue which is common across dating & matrimony apps,” a comment read.

Ms Mukund urged users of the platform to be wary of the profiles they find there. “This is an urge to all the users of this platform to make sure that you are exercising discretion before using any of these apps because obviously, what you see is not always what you get,” she warned.

“Will Demolish Artificial Barrier Of 50% Reservations”: Rahul Gandhi

“Will Demolish Artificial Barrier Of 50% Reservations”: Rahul Gandhi

Hyderabad:

Caste discrimination in India is “unique” — probably among worst in world — and the Congress will demolish the “artificial barrier” of 50 per cent reservations, the party’s senior leader Rahul Gandhi said today. Mr Gandhi is in Telangana, which is becoming the second Congress-ruled state after Karnataka to undertake a caste census.

The caste survey will be taken up by the state government from November 6 and it will continue till the end of the month.

Mr Gandhi, along with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, was attending a meeting organised by the state Congress, where he interacted with social groups, caste associations and state leaders and other stakeholders.

The Congress is resolved to conduct caste survey along with economic mapping to reveal who are the India’s poor and what percentage of population they comprise. This, the party maintains, will help to do away with the 50 per cent cap on reservations.

In a Hindi post on X earlier this year, Mr Gandhi had said the steps would “X-Ray” the country and provide correct reservations, rights and share to everyone, Mr. Gandhi said.

The previous panel of backwards castes was based on a 1993 law and had mandate only to gather data on education and employment quota. This time, the Telangana census will gather socioeconomic profile of all castes, sources had said.

48,000 teachers are expected to be deployed for the survey, for which primary schools will work only half-day this month.

They will go from house-to-house and conduct survey to collect data. This will encompass social, education, employment, economic, and political data. The government staff will place stickers on doors. There will be 85,000 enumerators.

Spoke Of Reunification Under India, Say Sources After Mizoram Chief Minister's Old Speech In US Goes Viral

Spoke Of Reunification Under India, Say Sources After Mizoram Chief Minister's Old Speech In US Goes Viral

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma addresses the Mizo diaspora in US’ Indianapolis

New Delhi/Guwahati:

A speech given by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma in the US nearly two months ago on reunification of the Zo people, which has gone viral now, has no element of controversy as the Chief Minister spoke about reunification under India, sources in the Mizoram government told NDTV.

Lalduhoma made the comment at an event to celebrate Mizo Day in Maryland on September 2. At the outset, the Chief Minister said he came to the US after taking permission from the Ministry of External Affairs, and he shared his itinerary with them.

Lalduhoma in his address on September 2 said, “… The main objective of [the] ZORO Movement in 1988 was Zo-Reunification within India. Can the ‘Zo’ people in India, Burma and Bangladesh today, aspire to be re-united under India? Looking at the geopolitical realities of our time, it may not be so farfetched to think this could be a possibility one day. Perhaps, fate has this reunification in store for us in the future…”

The full text of the September 2 speech is available on the website of the Mizoram government’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

The Mizoram Chief Minister gave another speech on September 4, this time in Indianapolis, where he said his people have been “unjustly divided.” It is this September 4 speech which has triggered a massive controversy.

In his address to the Zo diaspora in the US, Lalduhoma said: “… As I approach the end of my speech, I want to let everyone here know that the primary reason I accepted the invitation to visit the United States is to seek a path towards unity for all of us.

“We are one people – brothers and sisters – and we cannot afford to be divided or apart from one another. I want us to have the conviction and confidence that one day, through the strength of God, who made us a nation, we will rise together under one leadership to achieve our destiny of nationhood.

“While a country may have borders, a true nation transcends such limitations. We have been unjustly divided, forced to exist under three different governments in three different countries, and this is something we can never accept.

“We are fortunate that we are still connected through our lands and that there are no pretenders to insert themselves in our midst and cause division – this truly is a blessing from God…”

READSheikh Hasina Alleges Plot To Carve Out Christian Country From Bangladesh: Report

From politicians to academics, many have raised concerns over Lalduhoma’s speech in Indianapolis, with questions varying from what the law says about how an elected person should conduct themselves abroad to the wildly conspiratorial claim by ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that a certain nation wants to “carve out a Christian country” by taking parts of Myanmar and Bangladesh.

“Can someone who has taken an oath of allegiance to the Indian Constitution speak in a way that suggests breaking India apart? Do the Mizoram Council of Churches and other church bodies across India support Lalduhoma’s communal, divisive, and anti-national stance? Is Lalduhoma speaking for himself? Or for the external powers who want to reshape South Asia’s geopolitical scene?” former two-time BJP MP Balbir Punj said in a post on X.

Dr Arambam Noni, associate professor of political science at DM University Manipur, said ethnocentric accumulation of people for a homeland will disturb the overlapping demographic spaces.

“He seems to be sort of trying to aggravate the relationship between overlapping multiethnic demographic spaces, which can lead to conflict. He is trying to signal as if demography is going to play a big role in the making of a homeland,” Dr Arambam, who has been speaking in public forums on northeast issues especially those concerning Mizoram’s neighbour Manipur, told NDTV.

‘Demography Is Dated Politics’

“Demography is dated politics and is sectarian in some sense. The problem with the idea of transnational, territorial and ethnic unification in post-colonial states is that no mechanisms exist to do this. The modern state system cannot entertain such an idea simply because it contravenes the historically established territorialities. However, there is no problem in developing a cultural affinity,” Dr Arambam said.

“He (Lalduhoma) is saying that colonialism divided and dispersed their people in three different countries. But at the same time he is using the idioms of colonial culture to reunify the same people. This culture that he is using to connect people was an invention of colonialism,” Dr Arambam said.

“Interspace tranquillity must also be kept in mind while vouching for pan ethnic homeland,” he added.

Lalduhoma became Chief Minister after his Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) defeated the Mizo National Front (MNF) headed by former Chief Minister Zoramthanga in the assembly election in December 2023. The MNF, which won 26 seats in the 2018 state election, won only 10 in the December polls.

The ZPM was registered as a political party in 2019. The party won 27 seats – up from 8 seats in the 2019 polls – in the election that propelled Lalduhoma to the top post.

Hindu Temple Attacked In Canada, Justin Trudeau Reacts

Hindu Temple Attacked In Canada, Justin Trudeau Reacts

New Delhi:

Upholding the right to practice religion “freely and safely”, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday called the violence at a Hindu temple near Toronto “unacceptable”.

Heavy police deployment was seen at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton after skirmishes blamed by some leaders on Sikh activists. In videos that went viral, some men were seen breaching the gates of the temple and assaulting devotees inside the complex.

A spokesman for the Peel Regional Police told AFP that no arrests had been made. Police have also declined to assign blame for the reported violence.

Canada MP Chandra Arya said the incident showed how “deep and brazen” violent extremism has become in Canada. “Hindu-Canadians, for the security and safety of our community,  need to step up and asserts their rights and hold politicians accountable,” the member of Trudeau’s Liberal Party wrote. He also alleged that extremist elements have infiltrated both the political apparatus and law enforcement agencies of Canada.

The Mayor of Brampton Patrick Brown, meanwhile, called for punishment to the “greatest extent of law” for those held accountable for the violence. “Religious freedom is a foundational value in Canada.  Everyone should feel safe in their place of worship,” he wrote in a post on X.

While Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre promised to unite the people and end the chaos, Toronto MP Kevin Vuong asserted that “Canada has become a safe harbour for radicals”. Sharing a post on X, Vuong wrote, “Our leaders are failing to safeguard Hindus as they have Christians and Jewish Canadians from violence. We all deserve to worship in peace.”

The Indian High Commission said the “violent disruption” to the consular camp being organised in the temple premises came despite an advance request for strong security measures. The consulate also said it fears for the safety of applicants at the camp, including Indian nationals.

The violence comes amid ongoing diplomatic back and forth between India and Canada, including expulsion of diplomats. On Saturday, Ottawa named New Delhi as a cyberthreat adversary, suggesting that state-sponsored actors could be spying against it.

These actions come after Canada accused the Indian government of orchestrating the 2023 killing in Vancouver of 45-year-old naturalized Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Khalistan activist. It has also accused India of directing a broad campaign targeting Sikh activists on Canadian soil, which Ottawa says has included intimidation, threats and violence.

Last year, a Hindu temple in Windsor suffered defacement with anti-India graffiti, sparking widespread condemnation and calls for action from both Canadian and Indian officials. Earlier incidents in Mississauga and Brampton saw temples similarly targeted, drawing strong reactions from the Indian community in Canada

Rohit Sharma's Blunt Verdict Amid Virat Kohli's Form Concerns, Says “When Seniors Aren't…” | Cricket News

The Wankhede Test against New Zealand offered an opportunity of redemption but barring Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, none of the Indian batters managed to step up. The biggest disappointment of all was the performance from stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both ended the series with less than 100 runs each in the 3-match series. At the post-match press conference, India captain Rohit was bound to face some tough questions, especially regarding his and Virat’s form. Rohit didn’t hesitate, admitting that seniors not scoring runs is a big concern.

“It is a concern when seniors aren’t scoring runs. But what’s done is done. As a player, as a captain, as the team, we all have to look forward and see how we can correct what we didn’t manage to achieve here. We have an opportunity to do something special in Australia. We’ll focus on that now,” Rohit Sharma said after the Test match in Mumbai.

For yet another instance, captain Rohit’s ultra-aggressive approach to take on the bowlers, when a calculated approach was required in a tricky situation, had him walking back and perhaps for the last time at his home turf.

Rohit’s (11) erroneous attempt to play his signature pull shot off Matt Henry on a delivery which was barely waist-high led to his fall.

As soon as Rohit’s top edge went up, Henry broke into celebration knowing it was headed towards Glenn Phillips – one of the best fielders – who ran behind from midwicket to take a fine catch.

Coming off a fine 146-ball 90, Gill shouldered arms on a delivery from Patel (4/43) expecting the ball to turn away but it straightened to crash into his off-stump.

Kohli (1) marched onto the ground once again with his bat trained on his shoulder, perhaps to exude confidence, but he could not reach the pitch of a floated delivery which took the edge of his bat to the first slip.

“Barring Rishabh Pant…”: Sanjay Manjrekar's Blunt 'Survival' Message To Gautam Gambhir And Co. On India's Flaws | Cricket News

“Barring Rishabh Pant…”: Sanjay Manjrekar's Blunt 'Survival' Message To Gautam Gambhir And Co. On India's Flaws | Cricket News

The India vs New Zealand third Test is poised at an interesting juncture. India have reduced New Zealand to nine-down in Mumbai, bus the visitors have a lead of 143 runs at stumps on Day 2. If the last Kiwi pair cane push the lead to even 160s, it will be a tricky affair for India batting at the Wankhede Stadium in the fourth innings. India are already down 2-0 in the three-match series, and need to win or draw this match to avoid being clean-sweeped at home. After New Zealand were restricted to 235 in the first innings, India took a slender lead as they were out for 263 in the first innings.

Former India star Sanjay Manjrekar was not happy with the batting style of Indian batters, especially against spin. “For starters, the batting coach could slowly introduce the Ind batters to the wonders of back foot play v spinners. Will make survival easier, so also run scoring. Barring Pant, all main batters got out to spin while on front foot,” Sanjay Manjrekar wrote on X.

Later, NZ batters also suffered a collapse in the second innings. Manjrekar then wrote: “Post 2000 – Let me make the most till the ball that has my name on it comes along. Pre 2000 – It’s not such a bad pitch, let me hang in there & wait for the loose ball from a tired bowler. Thinking influenced by current culture & ability. There is no right or  wrong here.”

Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin admitted that a chase of around 150 won’t be very easy for the Indian batters on a not-so typical Wankhede turner, where the track is behaving differently at two ends.

New Zealand ended the second day at 171 for 9 in their second innings with an overall lead of 143 which many like former India captain and head coach Anil Kumble believes is a challenging target if one factors in the track.

“Hopefully not many, we should wrap it up with one or two runs here and there. Any runs saved in this innings is going to be much more critical. It’s not going to be easy, we’ll have to bat really well,” Ashwin told former teammate Dinesh Karthik in a snap interview for Jio Cinema.
