“Don't Want To Look…”: Rohit Sharma's Blunt Take On India's 2nd ODI Loss To Sri Lanka | Cricket News

“Don't Want To Look…”: Rohit Sharma's Blunt Take On India's 2nd ODI Loss To Sri Lanka | Cricket News

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma termed the 32-run defeat against Sri Lanka in the second ODI as hurting, and said there will be discussions about the way batters played in the middle-overs on Sunday. India were jolted by leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay’s six-wicket haul, and were bowled out for 208 while chasing 241, once again exposing their fragility against spin. “When you lose a game, everything hurts. It’s not just about those 10 overs (when India lost six wickets for 50 runs). You have to play consistent cricket and we failed to do that. Little disappointed but these things happen,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation ceremony. “We weren’t good enough. Don’t want to look too much into how we played. But there’ll be talks about our batting in the middle overs,” he added.

Rohit said India batters need to adapt quickly to the pitches here.

“You got to adapt to what’s in front of you. With left-right (combination of batsmen), we felt it’ll be easier to rotate strike. But credit to Jeffrey, he got six wickets.” The 37-year-old said there will not be any change in his approach despite the setback in this match.

“The reason I got 65 is because of the way I batted. When I am batting like that, there’s a lot of risks taken. If you don’t cross the line, you always feel disappointed.

“But I don’t want to compromise on my intent. We understand nature of this surface, it gets really tough in the middle overs. You have to try to get as many as possible in the powerplay,” he added.

Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka said their total of 240 was enough under the conditions.

“I was happy with the score — 240 was good enough. As a captain, I like this kind of problems (plenty of spin options). It was an unbelievable spell by him (Vandersay).” However, Asalanka hoped to chip in with the bat too in the next match.

“I am mainly a batter, and I have to score runs. After that I can bowl a few overs,” he said.

Player of the match Wandersay said there was a bit of pressure on him to perform as he came into the side as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga, who was ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury.

“There was a lot of pressure coming into the side. I am coming out of a layoff. It is easier to take credit (for myself). But I want to give credit to the batters as well, who put 240 runs on board.” The 34-year-old said he will have to keep pushing himself to be in among the regular players.

“Hasaranga is our No. 1 spinner. I got to understand the atmosphere of the team and team balance. I have to keep pushing myself.” Vandersay said the wicket of Rohit Sharma boosted his confidence.

“There was assistance in the wicket, I was trying to hit the good areas. Once I got my first wicket (Rohit), that built up my confidence,” he said. PTI UNG 7/21/2024 AH AH AH

Common Man “Fed Up” With Court Proceedings: Chief Justice's Push For Lok Adalats

Common Man “Fed Up” With Court Proceedings: Chief Justice's Push For Lok Adalats

New Delhi:

Noting the plight of common men who are “fed up” with court proceedings, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud highlighted on Saturday the importance of Lok Adalats as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

He stressed that the judicial process is a punishment for litigants, due to which they often desperately look for settlements to end tiresome litigation by accepting settlements even below their legal entitlements.

The CJI also cited several cases which were settled in the Special Lok Adalat. He cited a motor accident case in which the claimant was ready to settle the case for lower compensation despite being entitled to enhancement.

“Parties are ready to accept any sort of settlement because they want to get out of the system,” said the CJI.

Speaking at the commemoration function of the Special Lok Adalat, CJI said, “Log itna trast ho jate hain court ke mamlon se wo koi bhi settlement chahte hain… Bas court se dur kara dijiye (People are so fed up with the matters of the court that they just want a settlement). This is also a problem that we see as judges. This process is the punishment and that is a cause of concern for all of us as judges.”

He said there is a need for institutionalising the process of dispensing justice through Lok Adalats.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also attended the event and said that mediation is a part of Indian culture. He said Lord Krishna attempted to mediate between the Kauravas and Pandavas in the Mahabharata.

The Supreme Court today organised a commemoration function for the Special Lok Adalat week that began on July 29 and ended on August 2.

During this week, the court heard Lok Adalat matters every afternoon in an attempt to settle cases.
Lok Adalats are an essential part of the judicial system, facilitating alternative dispute resolution to expedite and encourage amicable settlements.

As per the Supreme Court, the number of cases selected for the Special Lok Adalat was 14,045. 4,883 cases were listed before the Lok Adalat benches and 920 cases were disposed of.

US Scraps Plea Agreement With 9/11 Mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed

The accused remained held at the Guantanamo Bay military base in Cuba.

Washington:

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Friday scrapped a plea agreement with 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, just two days after the announcement of a deal that reportedly would have taken the death penalty off the table.

Agreements with Mohammed and two alleged accomplices announced Wednesday had appeared to have moved their long-running cases toward resolution — but sparked anger among some relatives of those killed on September 11, 2001.

“I have determined that, in light of the significance of the decision to enter into pre-trial agreements with the accused… responsibility for such a decision should rest with me,” Austin said in a memorandum addressed to Susan Escallier, who oversaw the case.

“I hereby withdraw from the three pre-trial agreements that you signed on July 31, 2024 in the above-referenced case,” the memo said.

The cases against the 9/11 defendants have been bogged down in pre-trial maneuverings for years while the accused remained held at the Guantanamo Bay military base in Cuba.

The New York Times reported this week that Mohammed, Walid bin Attash and Mustafa al-Hawsawi had agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy in exchange for a life sentence, instead of facing a trial that could lead to their executions.

Much of the legal jousting surrounding the men’s cases has focused on whether they could be tried fairly after having undergone methodical torture at the hands of the CIA in the years after 9/11.
