Killers Of The Flower Moon and Poor Things received seven nods each. Succession headed the list of TV nominations with nine followed by The Bear and Only Murders In The Building at five each.

“If They Lose One Game…”: Sourav Ganguly’s Blunt Verdict On India’s Tour Of South Africa | Cricket News

“If They Lose One Game…”: Sourav Ganguly’s Blunt Verdict On India’s Tour Of South Africa | Cricket News

The Indian cricket team came under immense criticism after their loss in the first Test match against South Africa but the Rohit Sharma-led side made a brilliant recovery after winning the second match within two days in Cape Town. Earlier, the T20I series ended 1-1 after the first match was washed out while India were victorious in the ODI series. Former skipper Sourav Ganguly believes that a loss does not change the fact that India are a great team and he was happy with their performance in South Africa.

“India is a great team. If they lose one game, people talk as if the entire team is bad. A win in the ODI series, 1-1 in T20Is and 1-1 in Tests. What else? They are a very good side,” Ganguly told reporters.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin rebutted former England captain Michael Vaughan‘s claim of India being an “underachieving team”, saying they have been one of the best travelling sides in contemporary cricket.

During a panel discussion in Fox Sports recently, Vaughan had said the Indian cricket team should have achieved more on the field, particularly in the ICC events, considering the resources at their disposal.

“Michael Vaughan recently made a statement that the Indian team is underachievers. Yes, we haven’t won an ICC trophy in a while, and we call ourselves the powerhouse of the game. But that’s just one side of the coin,” Ashwin said in his YouTube channel.

The 37-year-old said India have produced excellent results, especially in Test cricket, around the world in the last few years.

“Our Test team has been one of the best travelling teams at present. We have seen many great results. After Vaughan made that statement, so many experts from our own country started debating if India is an underachieving team. Frankly, it made me laugh,” he said.

5-Year-Old Youngest In World To Undergo Successful “Awake” Brain Surgery

5-Year-Old Youngest In World To Undergo Successful “Awake” Brain Surgery

The girl happens to be the youngest child in the world to undergo successful brain tumour surgery

New Delhi:

Doctors at AIIMS, Delhi, successfully performed a brain tumour surgery on a five-year-old girl while keeping her in a conscious state during the operation with the hospital claiming that she was the youngest patient in the world to undergo such a procedure.

The procedure termed as ‘awake craniotomy’ (conscious sedation technique) surgery for left perisylvian intraaxial brain tumour was performed on January 4, AIIMS said in a statement.

The child presented with a history of seizures and her brain MRI was done which showed a tumour in the left side of her brain adjacent to speech/language area, it said.

The surgery lasted three hours, including time taken for giving local anaesthesia to the child by neuroanaesthetists.

The tumour was removed successfully by a team of neurosurgeons as she remained conscious throughout the procedure.

“Technological adjuncts viz preoperative functional MRI brain, intraoperative ultrasonography, neuronavigation were used to localise tumour precisely during resection while mapping of functional areas was being carried out under awake conditions. Ice cold saline was used for the brain surface to prevent any seizures during the procedure,” the statement said.

“The child is doing well and will be sent home on Monday,” it said.

A long discussion was held between team members, patient’s family and the child before taking a decision to go ahead with the surgery. They were counselled at length on steps of procedure, it stated.

She was shown common objects, common animals and given some tasks for language and sensorimotor assessments before surgery, which were repeated during the surgical procedure also.

She is a first standard student and was quick in identifying the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the surgery, the statement said.

“Awake surgeries for brain tumours are done for maximising tumour removals and minimising neurological deficits usually. During awake craniotomy, patients should feel a minimum level of pain while being completely able to cooperate in neurological tests,” it said.

“Although this method is called awake craniotomy, this method requires even more collaboration in perfect harmony of the surgical and anaesthesia teams than other operations under general anaesthesia said,” Dr Deepak Gupta, Professor of Neurosurgery who performed this operation with his team with neuroanesthesia team led by Dr Mihir Pandia and Dr Gyanendra Pal Singh.

“Akshita happens to be the youngest child in the world to undergo successful brain tumour surgery under awake conditions at this age at AIIMS, Delhi,” Dr Gupta said.

All Indians On Board Hijacked Ship Rescued By Navy Commandos

All Indians On Board Hijacked Ship Rescued By Navy Commandos

The Navy did not specify whether the hijackers had gained control of the ship at any point

All 21 crew members, including Indians, aboard the cargo ship, ‘MV Lila Norfolk’, that was hijacked late last evening near the coast of Somalia have been rescued and are safe, said officials.

The Navy deployed a warship, maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters and P-8I and long-range aircraft and Predator MQ9B drones following a hijacking distress call involving the 84,000-tonne bulk carrier that had been boarded by five or six “unknown armed personnel” on Thursday evening.

The elite commandos, MARCOS, sanitised the cargo ship in the Arabian Sea and rescued the 15 Indians from the ship’s citadel – a fortified section of commercial vessels used as a refuge during pirate attacks. The commandos have confirmed the absence of hjijackers on the ship, said the Navy in a statement.

“All 21 crew including 15 Indians onboard the vessel were safely evacuated from the citadel,” Indian Navy’s spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.

“Sanitisation by MARCOS commandos has confirmed the absence of the hijackers. The attempt of hijacking by the pirates was probably abandoned with the forceful warning by Indian Navy’s maritime patrol aircraft of interception by naval warship,” the spokesperson added.

Naval warship INS Chennai, a navy destroyer, that was diverted from its anti-piracy patrol, launched its helicopter and issued warning to pirates to abandon the hijacked vessel.

The Navy added that the warship was working to restore power and propulsion to allow the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier to continue to its next port of call.

It did not specify whether the hijackers had gained control of the ship at any point but said earlier that an overhead patrol flight had confirmed the safety of the crew on Friday morning.

Steve Kunzer, chief executive of the vessel’s Dubai-based owners Lila Global, thanked the Indian Navy for the rescue.

“We also want to thank the professionalism of our crew who reacted safely and responsibly under the circumstances,” he said in a statement.

The hijacking was reported by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a British military organisation that tracks movements of various vessels in strategic waterways.

Naval warship INS Chennai, a navy destroyer, that was diverted from its anti-piracy patrol, launched its helicopter and issued warning to pirates to abandon the hijacked vessel.

Last month the Navy deployed several warships into the sea to “maintain a deterrent presence” after a string of recent shipping attacks, including a drone attack near India’s coast blamed on Iran by the United States.

The latest attack comes at a time when many vessels have been rerouted from the Red Sea, where Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have carried out drone and missile attacks in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel is battling Hamas.

Last month a drone attack hit the MV Chem Pluto tanker 200 nautical miles (370 kilometres) off the coast of India.

Probe Agency Team, Going To Raid Trinamool Leader's House, Attacked

Probe Agency Team, Going To Raid Trinamool Leader's House, Attacked

Visuals of the incident showed windows of the car broken.

Kolkata:

An Enforcement Directorate team was attacked in West Bengal when it was going to raid the residence of block-level leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress in connection with an alleged ration scam. The probe agency said that the attack took place near Sandeshkali village.

Visuals of the incident showed windows of the car broken. Security officials have arrived at the spot and are conducting an investigation.

The raid, which has been called off for the day, was going to be conducted at the residences of former Bongaon Municipality Chairman Shankar Adhya and TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan.

Sheikh Shahjahan is the Fisheries and Animal Resources Officer of North 24 Parganas Zilla Parishad as well as Block President of Sandeshkhali 1.

The Trinamool Congress leader’s supporters gathered outside the leader’s residence as soon as the ED officials arrived and vandalised their cars

“Eight people came to the spot. We three moved from the incident spot …they attacked us,” a member of the raiding ED team told news agency ANI.

Two officials were injured.

Condemning the attack on the ED team, West Bengal Bhartiya Janata party leader Suvendu Adhikari said that the law and order situation in West Bengal is in complete shambles. The attack shows what the Rohingya are doing to the law and order in the state, he said.

He urged the National Investigation Agency to probe into the matter.
