IND-W vs ENG-W, Women’s T20 World Cup Live Updates: England are two wickets down against India in this Women’s T20 World Cup Group B match at the St George’s Park in Gqeberha. Renuka Thakur struck twice in the powerplay to leave England tottering after India had opted to bowl. India make one change, bringing in Shikha Pandey to replace Devika Vaidya. As things stand, England sit top of Group B with two wins from two matches, while India are second, only behind on net run-rate. A win would effectively take India into the knock-out stage of the Women’s T20 World Cup. With India’s top-order yet to fire on all cylinders, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh has stepped up with crucial contributions in both games. The focus, however, will be on the form of Smriti Mandhana, who had missed the opening game against Pakistan and failed to impress in the previous match against the West Indies. (LIVE SCORECARD)

IndiGo Orders 500 Aircraft As Part Of Expansion Plan To Reach Europe

IndiGo Orders 500 Aircraft As Part Of Expansion Plan To Reach Europe

IndiGo is currently flying 1,800 flights a day and 10 per cent of them on international routes.

New Delhi:

IndiGo has partnered with Turkish airlines to expand its reach to Europe and has ordered nearly 500 more aircraft as part of its expansion plan, said Vinay Malhotra, Head of International Sales on Friday, adding that it will help improve passenger services from India to Istanbul and to Europe.

As per the airline officials, IndiGo has ordered flights from European giant Airbus and US Boeing both.

Speaking to ANI, Mr Malhotra said the airline is currently flying 1,800 flights a day and 10 per cent of them on international routes.

“IndiGo has ordered 500 more aircraft for the expansion plan. Currently flying 1,800 flights a day and 10 per cent of them on international routes. Our current international flights are concentrated around the Indian sub-continent and some other countries around. The farthest we travel is to Turkey and Istanbul. We have been very keen to fly further and that’s why a partnership with Turkish airlines. This is a code ship partnership which allows us to penetrate Europe like never before,” he said.

Mr Malhotra said that as a codeshare agreement with the Turkish airlines, the IndiGo will be able to carry passengers from India to Istanbul and from Istanbul to beyond.

“We are having 27 points precise in Europe which covers the UK, France, Italy, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, and so many more points. These points have multiple frequencies with Turkish airlines and with our partnership with them as a codeshare we are able to carry passengers from India to Istanbul and from Istanbul to beyond. Within India too with our 76 online points, we are able to funnel people from all over India into Delhi and Mumbai further to Istanbul and then beyond to Europe,” he said.

Talking about the competition without naming Air India, which recently bought 470 planes, he said, “Competition is always welcomed. India has currently approximately 7.3 per cent less than 100 million people who have a passport. As Indian people get a passport the first thing they want to do is fly overseas. There is huge potential for travellers who are aspiring to travel within India or overseas. So we are in the right place at the right time to take people beyond the borders of India.”

Further talking about the expansion plan and requirement of multiple aircraft, he said, “We are currently flying a little over 300 aircraft and we are whopping nearly 500 more on order. Off course, the expansion depends a lot on the frequency and the timing of when we get an aircraft. But as and when the aircraft is coming, they will be deployed in some into the domestic market and some overseas.”

He further said that in near future IndiGo will launch two new points one would be Nairobi in Kenya and Jakarta in Indonesia.

When asked why people should choose IndiGo to go to Europe and no other airlines “We are offering the best connectivity to Europe and IndiGo assures people of hassle-free in carrier service, on-time performance and affordable fares.”

Recently, Air India ordered 840 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, the firm’s order is for 470 planes and the remaining 370 are options.

Nipun Aggrawal, chief commercial and transformation officer (CCTO), Air India, in a LinkedIn post, he mentioned that “The order comprises of 470 firm aircraft, 370 options and purchase rights to be procured from Airbus and Boeing over the next decade.”

The Airbus firm order comprises 210 A-320/321 Neo/XLR and 40 A350-900/1000. The Boeing firm order shall consist of 190 737-Max, 20 787s and 10 777s.

Boeing said Air India would purchase 290 aircraft from the company to scale up its fleet and achieve sustainable growth. In a statement, Boeing said Air India plans to invest in 190 737 MAX, 20 787 Dreamliner and 10 777X aeroplanes.

The agreement between Boeing and Air India includes options for 50 additional 737 MAXs and 20 787-9s. When finalised, this will be the most significant Boeing order in South Asia and a historic milestone in the aerospace company’s nearly 90-year partnership with the carrier.

CTTO Aggarwal said in the post: “It is indeed a landmark moment in the history of Air India and Indian aviation. This order of 840 aircraft has been a culmination of a fascinating journey that began almost two years ago starting with the Air India privatisation process.”

He also added, “This order demonstrates the vision and aspiration of the Tata Group to transform Air India into a world-class airline and connect India “non-stop” to every major city in the world. This order is also a testament to the tremendous economic potential unleashed by the Air India privatisation

Cricketer Prithvi Shaw vs “Fans”: Selfie Fight, Baseball Bat Attack

Cricketer Prithvi Shaw vs “Fans”: Selfie Fight, Baseball Bat Attack

Prthivi Shaw is seen clutching the baseball bat in the video released by the other side.

Mumbai:

An argument over selfies quickly escalated into a fight with a baseball bat and a car chase in Mumbai for cricketer Prithvi Shaw, according to a police complaint.

Eight people have been named in the police case for allegedly charging at Mr Shaw and his friend, breaking the windshield of their car and demanding Rs 50,000.

Those named in the complaint – two of whom have been identified as Shobhit Thakur and Sana or Sapna Gill – have refuted the charges and accused Mr Shaw of assaulting them first.

According to the complaint by Mr Shaw’s friend, the fight began at a luxury hotel in Mumbai’s Oshiwara in the early hours of Wednesday after two fans – a man and a woman – approached the cricketer for selfies.

After a few pictures, when they refused to back off and demanded more, Mr Shaw called his friend and the manager of the hotel to have the fans removed.

After being kicked out, the fans waited outside for Prithvi and, along with a few others armed with baseball bats, mobbed Mr Shaw, the complaint said.

When Mr Shaw and his friend drove off, they chased the car, intercepted it at a traffic signal and broke the windshield, it added.

They also demanded Rs 50,000, threatening to file a fake police case, according to Mr Shaw’s friend.

The allegations, however, have been challenged by those named in the case.

Speaking to the media, Ali Kashif Khan, the lawyer for Sapna Gill, has alleged that Prithvi Shaw assaulted the woman.

A video filmed by Ms Gill’s friend showed her struggling with Mr Shaw, who is clutching a broken baseball bat.

“Sapna has been kept in the Oshiwara police station. She is not being allowed to go even for medical examination,” Mr Khan said.

Before Death By Suicide, IIT Student Spoke To Father For 30 Minutes: Cops

Before Death By Suicide, IIT Student Spoke To Father For 30 Minutes: Cops

Solanki had told his father he will be visiting home on February 15, he said.

Mumbai:

Police probing the alleged suicide by an Indian Institute of Technology Bombay student today said he had spoken to his father for around 30 minutes before ending his life, but did not mention anything about facing caste discrimination.

An official said the police have started recording statements of his hostel roommates to ascertain what led the student, Darshan Solanki, to take the extreme step.

A student organisation has alleged Solanki — a Dalit — was facing caste discrimination at the campus, but the IIT Bombay administration has refuted the charge.

The 18-year-old student died allegedly after jumping off the seventh floor of a hostel building on the Powai campus of the premier institute on Sunday (February 12). Solanki hailed from Ahmedabad and was a first-year student of BTech (Chemical).

A senior police official involved in the probe said statements of more than a dozen persons have been recorded so far.

Police had asked Solanki’s parents, who visited the campus after the incident, if they have any complaint against anybody, he said.

As per statements available with the police, the student’s parents had not raised any objection on probe or expressed doubt over their son’s suicide, he said.

Solanki had spoken for half an hour with his father before ending his life, but during the conversation he had not said anything about facing discrimination in the institute, said the police official.

Solanki had told his father he will be visiting home on February 15, he said.

His was taken to Ahmedabad where last rites were performed on Tuesday, the official said.

“Police are thoroughly investigating the case and each and every aspect will be examined to know the exact cause of the suicide,” he said.
