This Complex Math Question Aimed At 10-Year-Olds Has Left Internet Stumped

The question is meant for students aged between 10 and 11

A tricky math exam question aimed at fifth graders has gone viral on the internet after many adults said they were not able to solve it.

The question, meant for students aged between 10 and 11, reads: ”Klein read 30 pages of a book on Monday and 1/8 of the book on Tuesday. He completed the remaining 1/4 of the book on Wednesday. How many pages are there in the book?” A screenshot of it has gone viral on Reddit, stumping adults.

Social media users were perplexed by the question, and many said that they would certainly fail the exam if the questions are so tough. A lot of users said that they are not able to solve the problem, while some tried their hands at decoding it.

One person commented: “And now we can all see why Are You are Smarter Than a 5th Grader? worked as a game show.” Another said, ”I always think to myself; ‘Ugh. People should really be tested with basic skills before they’re allowed to go out into society. And then I see this and realise I shouldn’t go out into society LOL!”

However, there were also many quick enough to solve the tough equation and posted the answer with a step-by-step explanation. A third user took a dig at those who couldn’t solve the problem and wrote, ”Apparently, the mildly interesting part is out dumb the average Redditor is.”

A fourth person who solved it explained, ”If Klein started the book on Monday, you divide 30 pages by five to see how much one-eighth is worth, with the answer being six. You then do eight times six which equals 48 – and this is the correct answer.”

After Venkatesh Prasad Fumes Over “Agenda Peddler” Charge, Ex India Opener Wants To Video Chat. Pace Great Says No | Cricket News

After Venkatesh Prasad Fumes Over “Agenda Peddler” Charge, Ex India Opener Wants To Video Chat. Pace Great Says No | Cricket News

The social media tussle over KL Rahul‘s inclusion in India XI despite repeated failures took an ugly turn on Tuesday. The issue happened between former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad and former India opener Aakash Chopra. Prasad has been quite vocal on social media regarding Rahul getting a long rope, while other performers like Kuldeep Yadav have been dropped easily.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra, meanwhile, did a YouTube video on KL Rahul. Towards the end of the video, Chopra urged Prasad to stay calm and not peddle ‘agendas’ if there are any or highlight stats that suit his thoughts.

“I am not saying KL Rahul will become like Rohit Sharma but I humbly request you to stay calm. If there are any agendas, let’s not peddle them. Let’s talk about the numbers that are actually there and not those that suit your thoughts,” Aakash stressed.

The comments did not gone down well with Prasad and he took on the former India opener on social media. “So my friend Aakash Chopra after making a vile video on YouTube this morning where he calls me an agenda peddle,  conveniently and cleverly misquotes me, removes Mayank’s average of 70 at home, wants to gag views which are not in line with what he believes but wanted Rohit out,” Prasad wrote in a series of tweets.

“I have no agenda against any player, maybe there are others who have. Difference of opinion is fine but calling contrary views as apna personal agenda and Twitter par mat laayein is funny for
@cricketaakash, considering he has made a great career by airing his views. I have nothing against KL or any other player, my voice has been against unfair selection and different yardsticks for performers. Be it Sarfaraz or Kuldeep, have voiced based on merit. But it was disappointing to see Aakash calling it personal agenda.”

After that, Chopra responded with a tweet. “Venky bhai, msgs are getting lost in translation. You here. Me on YT. I invite you to come on a Video Chat…we can do it Live. Difference on opinions is nice…lets do it properly I’ll not have any sponsors on it & nobody will make money out of it. Up for it? You have my number,” Aakash Chopra tweeted.

Prasad, however, did not accept the invitation. “No Aakash, nothing is lost in translation. In your 12 minute video you have called me as an agenda peddler because it didn’t suit your narrative,” Prasad wrote on Twitter. “It is crystal clear. And I have made my points very clear in this Twitter thread. Don’t wish to engage with you further on this.”

Viral: Javed Akhtar, In Pakistan, Says 26/11 Attackers “Still Roaming Free”

New Delhi:

Celebrated writer and poet Javed Akhtar’s blunt comments in Pakistan on 26/11 terrorists “roaming free” in the country and the bitterness in the hearts of Indians, have gone viral on social media.

Javed Akhtar visited Pakistan last week for a festival in Lahore in memory of legendary Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

The renowned lyricist, during an interaction, spoke about defusing tension between the two countries and said Pakistan couldn’t blame Indians for being angry.

He was responding to someone in the audience saying: “You have visited Pakistan so many times. When you go back do you tell your people that these are good people, they aren’t just bombing us but also greeting us with garlands and love?”

Javed Akhtar replied: “We should not blame each other. It will solve nothing. The atmosphere is tense, that should be doused. We are people from Mumbai, we have seen the attack on our city. They (attackers) did not come from Norway or Egypt. They are still roaming free in your country. So if there is anger in the Hindustani’s heart, you can’t complain.”

He pointed out that Indian artistes had not been welcomed in Pakistan in the way India had hosted Pakistani legends.

“When Faiz Sahab visited, he was received like a very important visitor. It was broadcast all over. We hosted big functions of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Mehdi Hasan. You (Pakistan) never organized a function for Lata Mangeshkar?” the poet said, drawing cheers and claps from the gathering.

Javed Akhtar’s comments are being widely shared and praised. Some called it his “surgical strike” in Pakistan.

Actor Kangana Ranaut was among those who cheered Javed Akhtar for his remarks in Pakistan.

“When I listen to Javed Saab’s poetry, I wonder how blessed he is by Goddess Saraswati. But there must be something pure in the person for God to bless them. Jai Hind @Javedakhtarjadu saab. Ghar mein ghuss ke maara (you beat them in their own backyard),” Kangana Ranaut wrote.

Meta Launches Paid Blue Badge For Instagram, Facebook. It Costs…

Meta Launches Paid Blue Badge For Instagram, Facebook. It Costs…

The product will launch first in Australia and New Zealand.

San Francisco:

Facebook, the social network that was supposed to stay free “always,” and its stablemate Instagram launched on Sunday a paid subscription service, as the advertising-based business model that has long dominated the internet falters.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook-parent Meta, announced on Sunday the launch of Meta Verified, a service starting at $11.99 a month to authenticate one’s account, which follows a similar move by Elon Musk at Twitter.

“This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services,” Zuckerberg wrote in a statement posted to Facebook and Instagram.

Meta Verified will be rolled out in Australia and New Zealand this week before coming to markets in the United States and other countries.

Subscribers will get a badge indicating their account has been verified with a government ID, extra protection against impersonation, direct access to customer support and more visibility, according to the company.

The social media giant said the service would be primarily aimed at content creators looking to expand their presence on the platforms and could see adjustments after a test phase.

There would be no changes to accounts on Facebook and Instagram that are already verified, the company said, adding that only users who are over the age of 18 will be allowed to subscribe. The service is not yet available to businesses.

It was not immediately clear how Zuckerberg planned to price Meta Verified in countries where users cannot afford to pay $12 a month, or in cash-based economies where they may have fewer ways to get the money to Meta.

Musk’s initial attempts to launch a similar service at rival social media network Twitter last year backfired, with an embarrassing spate of fake accounts that scared advertisers and cast doubt on the site’s future.

He was forced to briefly suspend the effort before relaunching it to muted reception in December.

‘Free’?

Facebook helped establish the dominant model of large platforms on the internet today, which sees users benefit from “free” services that collect their data to sell personalized ad space.

It is a model that has earned the company, along with other advertising titans such as Google, tens of billions of dollars a year.

For years the Facebook homepage proudly declared that the site was “free and always will be.”

But in 2019 the company quietly ditched the slogan. At the time experts suggested it was because the value of users’ personal data meant the site was never truly free.

In 2022, Meta saw its ad revenue decline for the first time since the California-based group went public in 2012.

The company recently announced that the number of Facebook’s daily users hit two billion — but between inflation eating into advertisers’ budgets and fierce competition from apps such as TikTok, those users are not bringing in as much revenue as they used to.

The company has also suffered from regulatory changes introduced by iPhone maker Apple, which restrict the ability of social networks to collect data and sell advertising.

Similar factors have already pushed other networks, from Reddit to Snapchat as well as Twitter, to launch paid plans.

Meta is also under pressure for making a huge gamble on the metaverse, the world of virtual reality that Zuckerberg believes will be the next frontier online.

‘Not a small fee’

Investors last year punished Meta, sending the company’s share price down by an astonishing two-thirds over 12 months, but the stock has recovered some ground in 2023.

Meta announced in November it would lay off 11,000 employees, or 13 percent of its staff — the largest worker reduction in the company’s history.

Meta Verified will be cheaper on the web than on mobile applications because of commissions taken by Apple on the iPhone or Google on smartphones operated by its Android system.

Zuckerberg said it would cost $11.99 on the web, and $14.99 per month on iOS or Android.

The company said it doesn’t expect to make significant revenue from the service during the test phase but that it is part of diversification efforts.

“Personally, I think it’s more about diversifying revenue,” said Carolina Milanesi, an analyst at Creative Strategies.

After Twitter launched its subscription, other social media groups thought “well, we might as well try,” she told AFP.

“Justifying that from a creator perspective I think is more of a marketing pitch than of true value to creators,” she added.

Platforms are fighting for users and that of influencers that draw their attention.

But for Milanesi, the Meta Verified offers are “a weird mix.”

“I don’t know if it gives enough to one category (of users) to justify the amount of money, which is not a small fee.”
