Delhi Capitals set for major coaching overhaul; likely to rope in Yuvraj Singh, Sourav Ganguly for IPL 2027 | Other Sports News | Zee News

In a massive development ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) are reportedly preparing for a complete structural overhaul as the JSW Group prepares to take operational control from next season.

The JSW Takeover Prompts Management Shuffle

The sweeping changes come as the JSW Group prepares to assume full operational and management control of the Delhi Capitals men’s team for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. Under a unique ownership agreement, co-owners JSW and the GMR Group alternate management duties every two years.

With JSW taking the reins, the existing support staff appointed by GMR – including head coach Hemang Badani, Venugopal Rao, and Munaf Patel – is set to make way for a brand-new leadership unit.

The revamp follows a string of disappointing campaigns for the franchise. Despite boasting high-profile stars like Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, and Kuldeep Yadav, Delhi Capitals failed to make the playoffs in consecutive years, finishing fifth in 2025 and dropping to sixth in 2026.

Dada And Yuvi: Reunited In Dugout

Sourav Ganguly, who has previously overseen JSW’s broader cricket portfolio (including the SA20 franchise Pretoria Capitals and the DC Women’s team), is returning to call the shots for the men’s IPL team – likely as Director of Cricket or head of the coaching staff.

While Yuvraj has never held a formal, full-time coaching position in the IPL since retiring from competitive cricket in 2019, his unofficial work as a mentor has been highly celebrated in Indian cricket.

Yuvraj, the 2027 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup winner, brings a wealth of experience and has previously worked with emerging stars like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, and his appointment is seen as a major boost for DC’s batting unit, which has often struggled for consistency.

Broader Changes On The Horizon

The coaching revamp is part of a larger restructuring. Speculation is rife about other potential moves, including:

  • A possible return of Rishabh Pant to Delhi via a trade (potentially involving Kuldeep Yadav heading to Lucknow Super Giants).
  • KL Rahul emerging as a strong candidate for captaincy.

With a fresh management structure, Ganguly’s tactical acumen, and Yuvraj’s legendary limited-overs expertise, Delhi Capitals are drawing an ambitious blueprint to reverse their fortunes and chase their elusive maiden IPL title in 2027.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B qualification scenarios: What Switzerland, Canada, Bosnia and Qatar need to reach last 32 | Other Sports News | Zee News

FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B qualification scenarios: What Switzerland, Canada, Bosnia and Qatar need to reach last 32 | Other Sports News | Zee News

After a thrilling second round of fixtures, Group B at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has transformed into a high-stakes tactical battlefield. Canada and Switzerland have put themselves firmly in the driver’s seat with dominant wins on Matchday 2, while Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar are left clinging to their tournament survival.

Current Group B Standings

  • The top two teams advance directly to the Round of 32.
  • The eight best third-placed teams across all 12 groups also advance.
  • Tiebreakers (in order): Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams, goal difference in those matches, goals scored in those matches, overall goal difference, overall goals scored, fair play points, drawing of lots.

The Final Matchday Fixtures

Switzerland vs Canada – BC Place, Vancouver (3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT)

Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Qatar – Seattle Stadium, Seattle (3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT)

Key Qualification Scenarios For All Teams

Canada (1st Place, 4 Points)

After making history with their first-ever men’s World Cup victory – a spectacular 6-0 thrashing of Qatar fueled by a Jonathan David hat-trick – Les Rouges control their own destiny on home soil.

To win the group: Canada must win or draw against Switzerland. A draw guarantees they maintain their superior goal difference (+6 vs +3).

To qualify as runners-up: If Canada loses to Switzerland, they will still finish second unless Bosnia defeats Qatar and somehow manages a massive swing in goal difference to overtake Canada (a combined margin of 9+ goals across both matches).

Worst-case scenario: A heavy loss coupled with an equally massive Bosnian win could push Canada into third place, where they would have to rely on the wildcard third-place ranking system.

Switzerland (2nd Place, 4 Points)

Murat Yakin’s side kept perfect pace with the co-hosts by punishing a 10-man Bosnian squad in a 4-1 triumph.

To win the group: Switzerland must defeat Canada at BC Place.

To qualify as runners-up: A draw secures second place for the Swiss, matching Canada on 5 points but sitting behind on goal difference.

If they lose: Switzerland will finish second if the Bosnia vs. Qatar match ends in a draw or a Qatari victory. If Bosnia wins, the Swiss could drop to third place if Bosnia overcomes the 6-goal differential gap between them.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (3rd Place, 1 Point)

Despite a tough Matchday 2, the Dragons are not out. Their opening 1-1 draw with Canada has given them a small mathematical window.

To qualify automatically (2nd Place): Bosnia must beat Qatar, hope Switzerland beats Canada, and completely erase a 6-goal difference deficit behind Switzerland (or a 9-goal gap behind Canada if Canada loses heavily).

To target the Round of 32 via third place:
A standard victory over Qatar puts Bosnia on 4 points with a heavily repaired goal difference, which historically offers a massive chance of progressing as one of the top eight third-place teams.

Qatar (4th Place, 1 Point)

Julen Lopetegui’s squad suffered a bruising evening in Vancouver, but the expanded tournament format keeps their knockout phase dreams alive on life support.

The only path forward: Qatar must defeat Bosnia in Seattle. A win would elevate them to 4 points, securing 3rd place in the group. They would then face a tense wait to see if their final goal difference survives the cross-group comparison to claim a wildcard spot.

'Everyone could hear the bone snap': Jesse Marsch reacts to Ismael Kone's horror injury in Canada's 6-0-win over Qatar | Other Sports News | Zee News

Canada’s 6-0 thrashing of Qatar on Friday (IST) was marred by a horrific injury to Ismael Kone, who had to be carried off on a stretcher following a dreadful challenge from Qatar’s Assim Madibo, who was sent off for the challenge.

Speaking after the game, Canada coach Jesse Marsch admitted the shock caused by the injury, but insisted that Kone’s broken leg will only serve to unite his players even more to claim the country’s first-ever World Cup win.

“It was right in front of us, and everyone could hear the bone snap,” said Marsch, who was shown to be in tears minutes after the incident, as reported by Xinhua.

“Everybody’s a little shaken by the whole experience because of the nature of the injury, and also because Ismael is a big part of the heart of our team. It will be a big loss for us,” he added, explaining Kone was “at the hospital. He will prepare for surgery.”

Kone waved to fans in Vancouver as he was carried off the pitch, and Marsch said it was “a statement about Ismael, but also this is an incredible team. I have been telling people for years about the character of this group.”

“You can see the brotherhood; It is one of the first things I noticed when I took on this role, how close they are and how connected they are.”

“You’ve got to see how everyone was crushed, but we had to find a way to stay focused. I said at the water break that he would want us to finish this game – and that is what the guys did,” continued the Canadian boss, who added that Madibo had gone to the Canadian dressing room after the game to apologize for his tackle.

“I don’t think he meant such a gruesome tackle; I don’t fault him for that,” he concluded.

Canada’s win gives the joint host four points from its opening two matches, which should be enough to book a place in the last-32, but a win in the last game will ensure Canada wins its group, ensuring its last-32 game will be on home soil.
