Samsung launches ‘Dropship’ for cross platform file sharing

has launched a new file-sharing application ‘Dropship’ that allows user to transfer files between all kinds of devices.

According to GSMArena, the application is currently available for South Korean users through the Galaxy Store.

The new application enables users to share up to 5GB of files every day by uploading files from the host device and creating a QR code that recipients can scan to download the file.

The file sender must have an Android 13 smartphone with OneUI 5, which is currently limited to Galaxy S22 series, the report said.

The recipient just has to scan the QR code, which starts the file download instantly without needing the application or a registered account.

Meanwhile, with the rollout of the stable version of Samsung’s Android 13-based One UI 5 update to its phones, the tech giant had announced to bring new emojis to its devices.

The new update would come with support for Unicode 15. It means the tech giant would be the first Android phone to have the latest emojis.

According to a report, Emojipedia announced in September that a new batch of emojis would be released through Unicode 15 — a standard for encoding, representing and handling text.

Samsung’s 8th Gen V-NAND chips to expand storage in next-gen servers

Samsung’s 8th Gen V-NAND chips to expand storage in next-gen servers

South Korean tech giant on Monday announced that it has started mass production of 8th Gen Vertical NAND (V-NAND) chips to enable expanded storage space in next-generation server systems worldwide.

The chips feature both the industry’s highest storage capacity and highest bit density, according to the company.

“As market demand for denser, greater-capacity storage pushes for higher V-NAND layer counts, has adopted its advanced 3D scaling technology to reduce surface area and height, while avoiding the cell-to-cell interference that normally occurs with scaling down,” SungHoi Hur, Executive Vice President of Flash Product & Technology at Electronics said in a statement.

“Our eighth-generation V-NAND will help meet rapidly growing market demand and better position us to deliver more differentiated products and solutions, which will be at the very foundation of future storage innovations,” he added.

Based on the Toggle DDR 5.0 interface, Samsung’s latest 8th Gen V-NAND features an input and output (I/O) speed of up to 2.4 gigabits per second (Gbps), a 1.2x boost over the previous generation.

Toggle DDR (Double Data Rate) is a NAND interface for high-performance applications which support data read and write operations.

The 8th Gen V-NAND is expected to serve as the cornerstone for storage configurations that help expand the storage capacity in next-generation enterprise servers while extending its use into the automotive market where reliability is especially critical, the company added.

Foxconn woos fleeing workers with subsidy after iPhone production hit

Foxconn woos fleeing workers with $70 subsidy after iPhone production hit

Apple iPhone supplier has announced to give fleeing workers a $70 (nearly 500 yuan) subsidy after Apple warned of iPhone delays due to Covid-related exodus at the Zhengzhou factory in China, the media reported on Monday.

called the ‘care and love’ subsidy a ‘pre-hiring’ offer as workers would not be able to return until the seven-day lockdown is lifted this week, reports South China Morning Post.

Zhengzhou is offering workers who fled the compound over coronavirus fears a one-off 500 yuan ($70) subsidy if they agree to return to work,” the report said.

The company said that it will organise transport to get the workers back at the factory in a “point to point, closed-loop manner” once the lockdown in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone is lifted.

Foxconn said it would “revise down” its outlook for the fourth quarter “due to the pandemic affecting some of its operations in Zhengzhou.”

Foxconn Zhengzhou employs nearly 3,00,000 workers.

The company has closed dining halls in the compound and asked workers to have meals in their dormitories. Canteens reopened last week but with limited seating, the report added.

There is no official estimate of how many workers have left Foxconn.

Apple earlier said that restrictions related to Covid-19 have temporarily affected the main iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max assembly facility in Zhengzhou.

The facility is currently operating at a significantly reduced capacity.

“We are working closely with our supplier to return to normal production levels while ensuring the health and safety of every worker,” said Apple, adding that the customers will have to wait longer to receive their new iPhone Pro devices.
