Signal launches new feature allowing users to customise their stories

Signal launches new feature allowing users to customise their stories

In order to maintain end-to-end encryption, the encrypted messaging app has introduced a new feature that allows users to customise how to post their stories.

The new feature will allow stories to automatically expire 24 hours after sharing, but anyone can manually delete them anytime before.

One just has to go to Settings and then to “Stories” and turn off Stories to maintain utmost privacy.

“Today, stories have created a major shift in communication in the social media domain, and introducing such cool features is another dynamic to amplify content engagement in a hassle-free mode,” an official report said.

“There has been conjecture on maintaining privacy, and with the new feature introduced at Signal, it enables the user to have intimate conversations with the people who matter,” it added.

The platform has chosen to handle story viewing in a broader way.

All contacts can view stories, including everyone in your phone’s contact list who uses the app, anyone who has had a one-on-one conversation (even without adding a contact), and anyone who has accepted a message request.

Additionally, one can share stories with a smaller group of people or groups and create a custom format to keep track of who has viewed each story, said the report.

Apple cuts iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus output by 3 mn units as demand wanes

Apple cuts iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus output by 3 mn units as demand wanes

. expects to produce at least 3 million fewer 14 handsets than originally anticipated this year, according to people familiar with its plans.

The company and its suppliers now aim to make 87 million devices or fewer, compared with a target of 90 million units earlier, the people said, asking not to be named discussing private information. The reduction is primarily due to softer demand for the 14 and 14 Plus models, cheaper alternatives to the high-end Pro offerings.

That comes in addition to supply problems in places like Zhengzhou, which is home to the main assembly site and is under a weeklong Covid-19 lockdown. Apple’s shares slid more than 2% in pre-market trading in New York.

Sales of the iPhone 14 and Plus have rapidly cooled since their launch and the slowdown is deepening in China, according to a Jefferies analysis of the world’s biggest market. Apple previously cancelled plans to increase production of its new iPhones this year after an anticipated surge in demand failed to materialize, Bloomberg News has reported.

Still, Apple said on Sunday that demand for its iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max devices remains strong, though production of those handsets will be clipped by the lockdown in Zhengzhou. It declined to provide specific figures.

SMBC Nikko analysts led by Ryosuke Katsura on Friday lowered their overall forecast for Apple’s 2022 output to 85 million new iPhones from 91 million units. Their revised forecast actually raises expected production of iPhone Pro models, but cuts the standard editions by a bigger margin.

“Some firms have begun to factor in the potential impact of these changes in their earnings outlooks,” Katsura and colleagues wrote. They revised their outlook after “confirmation this week of production and sales corrections in China and emerging signs of production cutbacks at some materials makers.”

Apple declined to comment beyond a statement earlier about supply from Zhengzhou.

Apple Falls After Cut to IPhone Shipment Outlook: Street Wrap

The Zhengzhou facility, operated by Group and also known as iPhone City, is Apple’s main production hub for assembling Pro editions of its iPhones. It’s been the site of worker dissatisfaction and an exodus over the way managed a coronavirus outbreak at the plant. The Taiwanese assembler has raised wages and put additional measures in place to improve worker welfare, which Apple has said is its top priority.

The Chinese government’s lockdown of Zhengzhou, effective for a week until Nov. 9, followed and now says it’s working closely with the government to stamp out the pandemic and minimize the disruption.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Foxconn’s main listed unit, has traded relatively flat over the past week while Apple’s shares are on a five-day losing streak amid wider skepticism about the prospects for tech and consumer businesses.

Apple’s bigger problem in the coming weeks may be the slump in iPhone demand rather than supply. China’s rigid Covid Zero policy has led to sudden lockdowns across the country, stymieing economic activity. Daily Covid-19 cases just hit a six-month high, leading officials to declare that the nation will stick to its strict virus controls.

Samsung reaches record-breaking 1.75Gbps download speed at 10km distance

Electronics on Monday announced that it has hit a 5G milestone in a recent field trial conducted in Australia, achieving industry-leading speeds of 1.75 Gbps at a distance of 10 km.

The trial was conducted by the NBN Co Limited, a publicly owned corporation of the Australian government, tasked to design, build and operate Australia’s National Broadband Network as the nation’s wholesale broadband provider.

“The results of these trials with are a significant milestone and demonstrate how we are pushing the boundaries of innovation in support of the digital capabilities in Australia,” Ray Owen, Chief Technology Officer at NBN Co, said in a statement.

The average upload speed recorded during the trial was 61.5 Mbps, according to the company.

During the trials, the company demonstrated that the 5G mmWave spectrum (very high-frequency radio waves that are being used for 5G wireless communications) can not only be used to build high-capacity 5G networks in dense urban areas but can also provide broader coverage for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA).

used its 28GHz Compact Macro and third-party 5G mmWave customer premises equipment in the trial. Samsung’s Compact Macro is the industry’s first integrated radio for the mmWave spectrum, integrating a baseband, a radio, and an antenna into a single form factor.

“This new 5G record proves the massive potential of mmWave technology, and its ability to deliver enhanced connectivity and capacity for addressing the last mile challenges in rural areas,” said Junehee Lee, Executive Vice-President and Head of R&D, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics.

In 2018, Samsung launched the world’s first 5G mmWave FWA services in the US, advancing global 5G mmWave momentum by offering an end-to-end portfolio of 5G mmWave solutions, including its own chipsets and radios, the company added.

Telegram launches new updates with topics in groups, collectible usernames

Telegram launches new updates with topics in groups, collectible usernames

To enhance the user chat experience, Messenger on Monday launched major updates to its application with features like Topics in Groups, Collectible Usernames, and more.

Among other features, the platform offers voice-to-text for video messages with dozens of new emoji packs for premium users, according to the company.

“I feel particularly excited about today’s update. It adds topics to large groups, transforming these linear chats into slick mobile-friendly versions of good old Internet Forums,” Pavel Durov, Telegram’s CEO and Founder, said in a statement.

Groups with more than 200 members can now enable “Topics” and create a separate space for any topic so that chats within the group can be easily read.

Users can now assign multiple “Collectible Usernames” to each of their accounts and publicly accessible channels on Telegram, so others can find and contact them easily.

“Topics today come packed with lots of features including the ability to close and pin topics, flexible notification options and lots of fun animated emoji to be used as topic icons. Taking advantage of the two-week delay caused by Apple’s review, we have begun to expand these new threaded groups into something even more powerful,” Durov added.

Moreover, with “voice-to-text for video messages”, video messages can be converted to text, allowing premium users to get an instant text transcript.

The feature was previously available to premium users to convert any voice message to text, for times when it was more convenient to read than listen along, the company added.

Also, the platform introduced 12 new emoji packs for premium users so that they can use these emojis in any message and caption.
