Indians lead in believing AI's benefits in the next 5 yrs: Survey | Tech News – Business Standard

Indians lead the world in expecting that artificial intelligence (AI) will have a positive impact on their lives in the next five years and later, said a report on Tuesday.

About 82 per cent of some 1,000 Indians older than 18 expected AI to benefit them in areas such as health, jobs, and ability to understand complex topics, said the survey by Google and Ipsos. The global average was 54 per cent, said the survey called “Our Life with AI: The reality of today and the promise of tomorrow”.

Over 70 per cent of Indians surveyed said they already sense the positive impact of AI, perceiving its effect the most in accessing information.

Most Indians believed in the long-term impact of AI, expecting the technology to address development issues in the next 25 years. As many as 77 per cent believed it will help reduce poverty and 86 per cent said it will improve transportation.

Sanjay Gupta, country head and vice-president of Google India, said: “As an AI-first company, we have been enormously encouraged by the optimism with which India is embracing AI’s every advance, and more importantly, shaping it. The Ipsos survey confirms Indians’ strong expectations of inclusive economic growth from AI integration.”

Indians said AI’s application will be important in health, security, climate change, personalised education, improved accessibility, and space exploration.

Indians expect AI to have a positive impact on jobs, with 80 per cent believing it will be beneficial for them individually. A similar proportion of respondents in Singapore, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates match their optimism. As many as 95 per cent of Indians have talked about AI in their workplaces, compared to the global average of 65 per cent.

The proportion of people who felt that the changes AI will drive for jobs and industries in the next five years will be “a good thing” was highest in India at 75 per cent. It was 29 per cent in the United States and 52 per cent globally.

“Ipsos is thrilled to partner with Google on the ‘Our Life with AI’ study. As people around our world deal with multiple challenges, it is important to also be aware of the great potential this moment presents. We at Ipsos are very excited about how AI will help people think more deeply about data and use data to make a greater positive difference in the world,” said Ben Page, chief executive officer, of the international market research and consulting firm.

Google is committed to “deepening our partnerships with (the Indian) government and the ecosystem to widen the impact of our AI leadership, ensuring that every new innovation unlocks aspirations of the individual and the country,” said Gupta.

Google to replace Assistant by Gemini on wearable audio accessories: Report | Tech News – Business Standard

Google is reportedly expanding Gemini AI availability to select headphones and earbuds. According to a report by 9To5Google, the latest beta version of the Google app has a code indicative of Gemini AI assistant compatibility with audio wearable devices similar to Google Assistant.

The report stated that the APK file, which essentially contains the program code for an Android app, of the Google app beta version 15.6 has a line of code that contains an error message stating, “Gemini mobile app is working on expanding availability to make it accessible on your headphones”.

Gemini support on headphones would likely bring AI-generated responses to queries in audio format. Launching the Gemini AI assistant using headphones is expected to be similar to Google Assistant. However, the report states, the responses from the AI assistant on the device will be in audio-only medium without any visual cues on the display.

Last week, Google announced that it is renaming its AI chatbot Bard to Gemini. Additionally, Google also launched a dedicated app for Gemini AI on Android devices. For iOS users, Gemini is accessible through the Google app.

The Android app, however, allows users to launch the Gemini AI similar to Google Assistant – by pressing the power button or saying the wake word “Hey Google”. Google Assistant voice features are also available through the Gemini app — including setting timers, making calls and controlling your smart home devices. Gemini Android app is available in the US and has started rolling out gradually to other regions.

OnePlus confirms UFS 3.1 storage on OnePlus 12r 256GB variant: Details here | Gadgets – Business Standard

OnePlus confirms UFS 3.1 storage on OnePlus 12r 256GB variant: Details here | Gadgets – Business Standard

OnePlus has issued a statement clarifying that the storage type on the OnePlus 12r smartphone is UFS 3.1 across variants. The statement surfaced after the company faced criticism on social media where several users reported that the OnePlus 12r has UFS 3.1 storage type, and not UFS 4.0 that the company originally stated. For the uninitiated, OnePlus stated that the OnePlus 12r has UFS 3.1 storage on the base 128GB variant and UFS 4.0 on the 256GB variant at the launch.

UFS 4.0 storage brings improved read-and-write speeds and better thermal management compared to UFS 3.1. While the difference in performance and thermals is not perceptible in general use cases, these make a difference for power users.

“Due to an error, we stated that the storage enhanced by Trinity Engine would be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1,” said Liu in his statement.

Liu in his post apologised for the error and requested customers who have purchased or pre-ordered the OnePlus 12r smartphone to contact the company’s customer service team to “discuss this further”.

Compared to UFS 3.1, the version 4.0 offers faster transfer speeds while being more power efficient. UFS 4.0 also provides better encryption for the data stored on it for more protection compared to the previous generation.

HMD Global to debut two smartphones powered by Unisoc chips: Details here | Tech News – Business Standard

HMD Global, makers of Nokia-branded mobile phones, is set to inaugurate its own smartphone line. The Finnish mobile phone maker is reportedly working on two smartphones, which would be called HMD Global Legend and HMD Global Legend Pro – according to a news report on 91mobiles.

The report states that both smartphones have appeared in a listing on the performance benchmarking platform Geekbench, revealing key specification details. As per the listing, both smartphones would be powered by an octa-core chipset, paired with Mali G57 graphic processing unit (GPU). This chip is expected to be the Unisoc T606, which has been part of select Nokia-branded smartphones.

The Geekbench score suggests that the HMD Global Legend could feature 4GB RAM, while the Legend Pro model could offer 8GB RAM. The listing also revealed that both the smartphones could offer the latest Android 14 operating system out-of-the-box.

HMD Global has not revealed any details about the upcoming smartphones. However, its official social media handle on X (formerly Twitter) has been posting teaser images for an upcoming smartphone in Blue, Green and Pink colours.

In one of the recent posts on X, HMD previewed an upcoming device in pink colour, featuring a flat frame design with contoured edges and a flat screen housing a selfie camera in punch hole design. The teaser image comes with a caption that reads, “We’re shaking things up with a new look!”

HMD could be launching as many as three devices in its first batch, 91mobiles reported. The company previously announced that it would be hosting an event at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It is likely that the upcoming devices under the new brand name could be unveiled during the event.

Microsoft to bring Xbox-exclusive games to PS5, Switch, and more: Report | Tech News – Business Standard

Microsoft to bring Xbox-exclusive games to PS5, Switch, and more: Report | Tech News – Business Standard

Microsoft is reportedly planning to bring select Xbox exclusive video game titles to other gaming consoles and platforms such as Sony PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. According to a report by The Verge, Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment would be the first two games that will be available to play on platforms outside Microsoft’s own. Other titles such as Sea of Thieves, Starfield could follow soon. The report also states that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle video game, which were announced last month for Xbox consoles and Windows PC, could make way to PlayStation 5 console.

Meanwhile, Xbox has announced that it will be hosting a special edition of the official Xbox podcast on February 15 with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, Xbox president Sarah Bond, and head of Xbox studios Matt Booty. There, Xbox is expected to announce the availability of select games on other platforms.

One of the reasons why Microsoft has decided to make Xbox exclusives open to other platforms is the slowdown in the number of Xbox Game Pass subscribers, according to The Verge report. Game Pass essentially allows subscribers to access numerous Xbox video games on the company’s gaming consoles, Windows PC and mobile devices.

The growth in Game Pass subscribers has been reported to be around 33 per cent in the last two years due to delays in major video games releases such as Starfield and Redfall. The growth rate has been less than what the company had projected.

Opening up Xbox titles to other gaming consoles would likely give Microsoft more reach for its video games and an opportunity to generate more revenue from its gaming division.
